Quick question(well two part question) having procedure done on the 2nd of May(Tuesday) figuring if all goes well will be home on the 4th (Thursday) is this realistic? Also will I be able to take a short drive, 35 miles one way, being the passenger on the following Saturday the 6th, what do y'all think?
Hi Eileen i'm 8 weeks p/o .If I were you I would wait and see how you feel. everyone heals diffrently. I would also ask your doctor and see how he feels about it.You may want to get out for awile but not be up to going that far. Also about when you will be comming home again ask your doctor ,but that sounds about right the 4 or5 well good luck I will keep you in my prayers!!!
HI Eileen,
I had surgery in Rockville Center NY and on the day I was released, I was a passenger in the car driving back to the Albany area - that was a 3 hour trip with the stopping. My doctor said to make sure that I got out of the car and walked about evey 45-60 minutes to keep the circulation in the legs going. It was tough I remember but I made it. Two days later, I drove about 20 miles round trip on a manual transmission vehicle. Again, it was a bit rough but I went cautiously and got in and out of the car very slowly. You may need someone to help you in and out of the car.
Check with your surgeon before you do anything. He/she should have the final word.
Good Luck!

I will say yes. I have Dr. Cunningham and i'm having it done open and marcy side 2 days and out. I talk to other people and from that office and they said that they were fine a couple of days later. My Gf had it done back in '01 and it sucked because they kept her there for 5 days, but in 3 she was fine and was @#tching about getting out. So 2 days ic cool.

Eileen,
I had about 30 min trip the day I was released from the hospital but I would check with your surgeon about that. I know it was painful in the car for me coming home after the surgery but we all different so really you will have to see how you are feeling at that time.
I wish you all the best! ~hugs~
