SPINNING MY WHEELS

I've been trying to get back on track but it seems like I'm spinning my wheels here. In the last 3 weeks I've lost nothing. I am hitting the gym prety good but I am turing to junk food to help deal with the deep pain of a failing marriage. Yes I am in therapy but it is still difficult. I'm happy I have not gained but I should be down 60 lbs by now and I'm not! Just venting here! Thanks KB

Hey Kenny, I know the draw of junk food, believe me. I don't know what junk food you like, but if it is somehting liked potato chips, try the Nature's Promise Soy Crisps. They are similar to mini rice cakes, but made with soy, and have 7 grams of protein per serving. They help with my salt cravings, make me feel like I am snacking, and up my protein at the same time. If your choice is something like ice cream, try fresh fruit and cool whip instead. That helps me out, esp. if the cool whip is frozen. FOr another dessert type thing, I used to take choc. and regular redi whip in a can. I would put choc in a dish, with reg on top, and eat it like pudding. I think they come sugar free, but I don't think there is much sugar in them anyway because they were ok when I did atkins long ago. Emotional eating is tough to overcome........I too am a stress eater. I have pretty much gotten a hold on it, and hope I will keep that hold. ONe other suggestion I have is to eat something good every two hours. If I don't do this, then I get hungry and don't feel satisfied even when I eat. If i eat smaller every couple of hours, I am less likely to reach for junk. GOod luck to you, and I hope things work out. S

Hi KB - It's those "should"s that always get me ... "I should be down by 60 lbs by now". For me at a certain point, to go through something painful and be able to say "I have not gained", that's a victory. I wish you well, Mary Mc

Hey Kenny, I used to be a major emotional eater. My last episode was a few days before my first fill. I am on a lap band list with Jessie Ahroni, who wrote a lap banding book. I don't know why, but she really inspires me. When I am about to eat something for the wrong reasons, her phrases pop into my mind. "Just because you can doesn't mean you should" is usually the one that keeps me from eating. Nutty but it's just a form of self-talk, I guess. Another one not from Jessie is "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels" I can't say I do anything special to distract the upsets other than reading stuff online. I also just to try to think of why I am eating before. Is it because I am hungry, or upset, that kind of stuff. I have been journaling online on myspace. Some stuff is private some is public. It helps me vent. I hate handwriting but online, no sweat. It's good you are in therapy...I need to go back myself! Kristine

Hi Andrea, Where are some good places to walk in Orange County? I live in Southern Ulster about 5 minutes from the county line and hit the rail trails in Ulster. I am thinking of attempting to do the whole Wallkill rail trail at some point(12 miles!) But I was always curious about the great outdoor walking spots in Orange Cty . Kristine
