Wow, really? I had no idea and I just went to their support group meeting on Monday. There was no mention of it. I wonder if their after care programming will go away too.

They called to cancel my friends appointment was told they just found out they are no longer going to be doing the surgery no other further info giving

Appeal the decision. Get help from your physician's office, ask your PCP, Baratric surgeon, and nutritionist to write letters on your behalf supporting why you need the procedure. Send in copies of the statistics that show long term health improvement and the amount of money they would save long term by granting this procedure. Don't give up. Research you benefit plan and what is required to be granted approval.
