Quick Poll: WWYC?? (What Would You Choose?)

This is the first time I will eat out since surgery so of course I am having a panic attack!!

My boss is taking everyone out to lunch for Christmas, which is very nice of him. I haven't told anyone at work about my surgery...well they know I had surgery because I was off work but not what for. I am not that close with anyone to delve into the details.

I thought I would post the lunch menu to where we are going just to see what some other people might choose for lunch.

For myself, I had to consider:
* I don't eat bread, so anything with bread is out. No pasta either. Rice is iffy.....
* I don't want to be taking giant portions home because I think that will look bizarre and I don't want to offend my boss or have to explain why I only ate 1/4 of my plate.....not to mention it never tastes as good when its warmed up! lol
* I wont eat anything with a coating or breading on it or that's been deep fried
* I am concerned about the amount of sugar in some of the dressings for salads......but I can always ask for those on the side.

I like everything so that's not an issue
note to self....MUST remember NOT to order a drink!!

I am pretty sure I will go with the Strawberry, Asparagus & Beef salad, dressing on the side.

What would *YOU* choose??

In ever order salads. They are GIANT and really lousy is a take home container.
If you want to know stand out, I'd order something soup related. Depending on what the soup of the day is, that could be a good choice.

If not - nothing wrong with telling people you're doing a low carb thing and order a burger with no bun. I do this all the time at restaurants. Although you still probably won't be able to eat it all.

I'd go with the soup of the day as well and you can always say you had some dental work done or you ate a huge breakfast or have a bit of a queazy stomach, if anyone questions you.  As Erica said, the salad will most likely be huge and you'll never be able to fini****

I would also go for the soup of the day

I wouldn't go with the soup. I've mostly avoided soup since WLS, as it usually doesn't have much protein and is a "slider" food so I'm hungry an hour after I eat it. I'd go for the salad you mentioned, keep the dressing on the side and just dip my food in it so that I could bring the leftovers home. Good luck!

I personally would not go with the soup.

I would ask if the crab cakes are fried - if not, go with that. The portions are usually not overly large.

The other alternative is the salmon without the rice.

Depending how the beef is cooked, there is the possibility it will not sit well.

I have never told the folks I work with abou tmy surgery either, and I find at a company lunch my only two safe choices are the salad or the soup.  So I think either would be fine.  I actually find that I can eat more salad than anything else, as lettuce is mostly water, so when chewed up there isn't much to it.  It really makes it so how little I eat is less noticable than other dishes.  I always get the dressing on the side so that I can take home the leftovers without it getting soggy.

I always order a water with my meal.  I don't drink it, but I say, "Oh just a water for me please"  I find if you say that you don't want anything, someone will inevitably say "Not even water?"

From the menu you posted here, my choice would be the Louie Salad.  Only 4 shrimp and some crab on the salad, and it didn't say anything about frying or coatings.

Regardless of what you choose, I hope you have a good time!

omg my mouth is watering now. lol

The salad sounds good, but if you want to look like you've eaten more than you have, its not a good idea. Every time i've had a salad out, the wait staff always asks me if it was ok, cuz it looks like i havent touched it.

I'd do like Erica said, get a burger, no bun, tell everyone who asks that you're doing the low carb thing, and ta daa it looks like its working!

Don't stress about it.

That restaurant looks yummy.

I would definately consider soup but have a back up in case the soup was a really bad choice (i.e. a pure cream soup). In that situation it would be more important for me to get a non-challenging good choice than a challenging perfect choice. I would happily take a slider food to get through the meal. Eating socially can be challenging and you could forget to chew well or nervously eat quicker, making soup a good choice.

If I got salad, I would ask the waitstaff for dressing on the side in case it was something sugary or really fatty. Also, I might ask for a half portion if the place/situation was such that I could subtly do so.

Hi Jennifer,

I like a side salad because you can pu**** around a plate and make it look like you've eaten more.  I have found a safe and proteiny (sorta) choice is french onion soup, hold the croutons.  Very filling and you can take your time (because its hot).

Enjoy your outing!
