Update on me
Friday feb 10th I had my surgery, the RNY was textbook but then they decided to repair my 7cm in diameter umbilical hernia in which there was some complications.
Day 2 post op
Still hadn't passed any gas. I was in huge amounts of pain that the morphine couldn't even touch (gas and hernia pain) so they switched me to dilotted (sp?) pain killer via IV and it seemed to help. I walked around and did many laps on the st joes 6th floor.
Day 3 post op (Sunday morning) they wanted to get me off IV pain meds so switched me to liquid T3..... Well I don't know if I had a reaction or something but I threw up foam and dark red stuff for a good 7 hours with hardly any rest. The heaves alone were killing my hernia. Robyn said I was white as a ghost... I felt no respite and really became worried. The nurse then gave me dilotted morphone via subcutaneous and I passed out for 3 hours. I was then brought down to do a the gaffrin swallow test... The stuff tasted like lemon dish soap and I had a hard time keeping that down during the tests.
After that the nurses (Debbie and Arlene ) gave me many Popsicles to help rehydrate me. What a treat. I walked some more than passed out. I had also passed my first gas. Whoo hoo!
Day 4 post op I got the results back of the swallow test and they were ok. And said I'd be released that day as I got all of my colour back. I also had passed a ton of gas and also had my first bowel movement (ya some movement ******g out of your ass lol)
I am so sore in the area of my belly button (where the hernia was) prolly because I did some damage from all the throwing up....the nurse said it could have dumped because of it. No one really knows, all I know is that I have such a hard time sitting up in the upright position....the only thing that feels good is lying on my back with my head slightly propped up. When pains come I can easily raise my knees up and fart the tune of star wars that something even John Williams the composer would be proud of. Just make sure you know what a fart is compared to poooping. Well I found that out last night as I sprayed the bed sheets. God what a mess I felt like and 80 year old dirty old man. I was so embarrassed. But the ladies here at mark Preece family house have been amazing.
Day 5 tues valentines day
I'm still having major issues sitting up, I feel like my guts are all weighing down on my lower abdomen near my hernia repair and I can only keep this pose for 20 mins at a time. How the hell am I going to take a plane flight home? This has me worried as I've received only advice on passing gas for rny but have been left in the dark about my major hernia. Even dr anvari said it was HUGE! So any tips here how to survive to get home would be appreciated.
Porter has posted a code for valentines day AMOUR for 50% off flights if booked by tonight. So we are scheduling for Friday to give me a few more days to feel better. To get into the valentines spirit I had some red no sugar added Popsicles and strawberry boost. My little lady also put up no stickum valentine decorative things in the bathroom and shower and is giving me a hot shower on my back (of course) to feel better....I'm looking forward to the happy ending.....(hair washing) you perves!
So any hernia tips I would greatly appreciate, I miss you all and will be thinking of you as I down my liquid dilotted! Happy Cupids Day! I promise no choco surprises in the sheets.

I've never flown Porter so not sure if their seats recline at all but if they do even a bit, anything other than sitting straight up would be best. Do you have any pain meds left? If so, take one about 10 mins before boarding and then pass out the whole way home.
as for the flight, i'd speak with the airline or flight attendant and see if you can sit reclined even during take off/landing. i would take meds just before boarding and try to pass out. maybe a pillow to hug will help keep anything form wiggling/giggling around while traveling (i know it helped me on my car ride home from the hospital.)
debi.,
Sorry to hear you're having such a sh*tty time of it!
