My dad did have an aortic anuerysym but it didn't rupture and that isn't what he died from so a thinning of the aortic wall can be operated on and saved but once it has ruptured it is an emergency.  Measha Brugerrgosman (sp) a Canadian Opera singer who survived one went on to have RNY and is living her dream.

I have mostly gotten rid of fatal illnesses. My CRP which is an indicator of imflammation in the body and a warning sign for heart disease was at an astonishing 18 ten years ago . Today it is at 1.8 and the range is below 8. I could not believe it and was so proud of myself as heart is a major issue in my family history.

My diabetes is gone, my high blood pressure gone, my high cholesterol and triglicerides all now below normal.  My good HDL is normal.

I am still having thyroid and hyperparathyroid issues but I hope to figure out what is next for the parathyroid especially this week.  The doc was talking surgery last year so not sure what is planned now. It is not terminal but does leach calcium from my body which of course is not good.

I do feel my fibroids now in my lower ab area and wonder whether they are cancerous but all in all I am one VERY healthy woman thanks to surgery.

Glad you have nothing fatal!

Fibroids are typically not cancerous. Usually they grow in one of three spots.. inside the uterus, in the wall of the uterus or outside the uterus... Ultra sound can give a better indication of exactly where it is.  I hope it's just a plain old fibroid for your sake. You've already been through enough

I have thyroid issues too. Hypothyroid. But my endocrinologist looks after it really well and is stable at the moment.

I can't WAIT to see what this surgery does to those numbers along with the rest lol

Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.

I have that xyphoid thing too - wondered what it was! Am pretty sure I've had a couple of brain tumours as well!! A little knowledge is a very bad thing.

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

Yes, I self-diagnosed my recent bowel obstruction.  When the tests came back, the ER doc came in to deliver the results and I said, "Bowel obstruction, right?"  He gave me a funny look and said, "What the hell do you need a doctor for?"  Me - "Well, I can't FIX it on my own.  Sheesh." LOL
