Question to people that started around 255lbs, loose skin

Hi I wanted to know what your experience was with loose skin after surgery, seeing that I guess it is still considered light weight, did you end up with a lot of it or min? What about the boobs lol, mine are pretty big trying to get an idea, even thou I know everyone is different, what to expect?

Also hair loss?

Thank you

If you loose around 100 lbs or more you will have loose skin. How bad it looks depends on a lot of factors , age, genetics, how/in what areas you lose most etc.

I was in my early 40's, 5'9" 294 lbs, gain and lose weight proportionally, was a DD. I went down to 160 and looked good with my clothes on and a great bra. Without clothes my breasts were pancakes, and I had a couple of tummy rolls. I always wondered if these rolls were truly skin or fat but I had plastic surgery and they are gone now. My breasts were what I missed the most.

Hair loss happened on schedule around the three month mark and lasted till around the 9th month. Nothing you can do about it, taking suppplements etc. Some people cut their hair, not sure why -mine was really long. I noticed it on my scalp. I think the lighter your hair is the less noticeable. I was the only one who noticed it.

I had loose skin at 60 pounds gone. lol. But I had two big babies, i'm not even 5 foot 2, and my panni has always been a problem. My thighs were also loose by 60 pounds gone, and got worse after the next 44. No amount of running and spinning changed that!

My biggest weight was 242. My surgery weight was 231. I'm now 127-130.

My arms didn't get bad until my last 10 pounds were gone, same with boobs. I had my PS on my tummy. So now I just have loose thighs, arms, and boobs (although they aren't bad-looking when i'm standing up...lol)

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

Good question and good answer. I too wondered about that.

I am only 4 months post op. I started at 274 (41 yrs old) but with 2 pregnancies I already had a very stretch marked tummy. I have loose skin. my arms have always had bat wings. but very few stretch marks other than my tummy. So I am hoping I can tone up my arms, legs etc. My tummy I don't ever expect to tone (re: stretch marks) My boobs are so far not so bad. I did have to go down in a cup size and band size about a month post op so far but so far not pancakes (yet) they have stayed the same since that one month mark.

My hair has been falling out for about 15 years. Probably bad nutrition! When I had surgery my hair STOPPED falling out for 3 months, then started falling out again at the 3 month to the day mark, but not any more than it has fallen out previous to surgery. SO I am used to it! Hopefully after this stage it will stop again and grow thicker like when I was younger. My hair has never been very thick anyhow!

I started at 256 at 5'3.  I am now 164 (oohhh so weird to type that) and I look like a Sharpay dog.

I boobs are like rocks in a sock, my arms are SO bad and hangy and puckered.  My stomach is hangy and weird and my ass is wrinkly and my kids laugh at it.  My inside thighs are getting pretty interesting too.

You know, I am almost 38 and I don't care.  that's what clothes are for and a husband who adores me no matter what.

I plan on getting my panni removed because it does do the flappity flap when I try to jog.  Other than that, these are all my war wounds.

I say all this but it also really depends on your skin type.  I have crappy crappy skin, it's thin and has no elasticity what-so-ever.

My hair has thinned but didn't come out like I expected it to.  I just cut it short and called it a day :)

Good luck !!

WoW dna.. you've done awesome with your weightloss.. I was 256 at 5'3" surgery was 05/09/2012 and i'm only at 198 and holding.........and holding.. but through my own issues..

I think I'm inspired to get back on the wagon and be good... I'd love to see those numbers on the scale..

I don't have any lose skin but I do have stretch marks.. The more exercise, moisturize and good food I think helps a bit but also the amount of weight you have to lose..I have great skin and have lost only a minimal amount of hair so far  so I'm lucky.

I started at 323....and am maintaining 104lbs weight loss....you are correct it does effect people differently...I have a large pannus fold, to which I submitted to OHIP for removal

I was at first denied then I appealed and won...it took almost a year.  I will be having this removed in Toronto July 2014, because I have also opted to pay the extra and get a full tummy tuck..

There is a small amount of skin that may possibly rebound back..but it truly depends on your genetic make-up, how long you have stretched your skin......it's not going to bounce back..as far as breasts..just like with gaining weight from a pregnancy, it will NEVER be perky again..   If at any time you experience rashes or back pain see your doctor to have it documented...if in the future you see a plastic surgeon for breast reduction surgery and would like to apply to OHIP..having the background documentation from a doctor is a +.

A good support bra is a MUST...after you have lost a significant amount of weight. Get proffesionally fitted and NOT at Walmart~!!

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!

Hi, I have think skin and I have had plenty of surgeries and doctors have always been shocked at my recovery. I haven't had any children and once in my 20's I lost 60 lbs in about 8 months and had no loose skin at all and I have no stretch marks on me at all but  I know i am now 37 with more weight to loose but guess I will take it one step at a time, if I need plastic later I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I wouldn't change my mind for surgery any ways I need this for myself.
