Scope results - candidas infection

Good morning, My journey so far has been easy and uneventful, just filled with waiting. Yesterday I had my scope done, because I've had heartburn in the past, nothing crazy, nor everyday. Anyways, after my scope the dr returned with pictures and a script. I've got acid reflux with scarring on the esophagus as well as tiny white bumps that are a candidas infection. I was floored, I thought this was routine, I don't feel anything that crazy. Yes I have heartburn occasionally but who doesn't? Has anyone else experienced this, will this hurt my chance for surgery? I'm almost there this was the last thing needed!!
Sorry this is a bit long, but I'm honestly so surprised!

Poor you! Was there any kind of follow up appointment made? Not sure if this will respond to antibiotics (I am not a medical professional). Was it your bariatric surgeon that performed the scope? One would think that if it would hinder your surgery he/she would have informed you right then?

We are going through Candidas with my father in law - they expect it to clear up with some heavy duty antibiotics so hopefully yours will clear before your surgery date

Okay ladies, step back for a sec.

First of all, Candida cannot be treated with antibiotics - it's a fungal infection. Very common. Easy to treat.

Second, H. pylori (also known as Helicobacter pylori) is a bacterial infection, and also very common. It too is very easy to treat, with antibiotics.

Do yourselves a favour. Go onto www.medlineplus.com and perform a search for each fo those pathogens. You'll see they are almost ubiquitous - that means very large portions of the population carry them around all the time. The reason our WLS people screen  for them is that they are so common, and so easy to treat. They'll fix you up, and your surgery will still happen. Don't worry.

Thanks Gabygee! The words I needed to hear. I've never felt different, and was shocked to hear my insides weren't A-okay. I'm not in pain or uncomfortable, just shocked there is a problem. I was given meds to kill the overgrowth of yeast, and after tons of googling realize its normal, just not where I've got it!! Thanks for your words I needed to hear

With the H Pylorie , in my case its not  so easy to treat, because if it comes back positive the amount of antibiotics i will have to take to get rid of it can cause a flare  up of c-diff i contracted 2 years ago. So i am praying its negative. Its amazing what we are learning on this journey. Thanks for the positive re enforcement Gabygee....Krista

Thanks ladies - believe me, two years out, it's still a struggle from time to time.

 (a) I still can't eat fast  - it still comes back out pretty quickly

 (b) I still can't eat fats or sugars in amounts any higher than 10 g - they come out quickly as well

 (c) my head hunger and boredom eating are still there, despite all the progress.

I combat those two with drinking water and trying to exercise more. Sometimes that works.

While I am concerned about my behaviour years from now, I am still much more grateful for the tool I've been given. This is truly a whole new life, and I am conscious of it every day.
