momcando, go to my profile and look at my 8/10/08 post. I say pretty much the exact same thing. This is so normal. you will also see just a few days later I felt better. I hope you are feeling better now. But I think you should be more worried if you don't doubt your decision at least once. This is definitely not something people should go into blindly.
BTW- Have you been to the Lapband forum? Great information and support there. I don't have a support group here so they have been it for me.

Hi momcando, Congrats on making this decision. It has been a great one for me!!! I love Dr. Patterson and the entire program they have there at Legacy. They may take awhile to see but if you live close by and can spread the appointments out it may be easier. I live several hours away and had to stay overnight in a hotel to get all my appt. done in 2 days. Then insurance required a 5% weight loss and Patterson wouldn't do surgical consult until then. But after that they put my preauth into ins. and I was in surgery 6 weeks later. GOOD LUCK!!!

Topic: Health Tracker Updates In Time For The Holidays - Profile Integration and Workouts

Today we released a couple of major updates to Health Tracker just in time for the holidays (as we continue on the path to Health Tracker world domination :). These updates include, 1) Profile display of Health Tracker - If you choose to, you are now able to display/share your Health Tracker within your personal profile. This can be kept completely private, it can be shared with only your friends or with the entire ObesityHelp community. 2) My Workouts - You are now able to build and store custom workouts that can be used over and over again. My Workouts will allow you to log multiple exercise/activity items at one time so you don't have to search for individual exercises each time you want to log your activity or exercise session.

Profile Display of Health Tracker .

The profile display of Health Tracker includes Body, Food Log, Exercise Log and the Macronutrient Report. As mentioned above, this can be kept entirely private or you can choose to share your Health Tracker information with friends, family, your bariatric surgeon or other clinicians.

In order to see the profile view of Health Tracker, when viewing your profile or another member's profile, look for the Health Tracker link to the right of the avatar. If there is no Health Tracker link, the profile view of Health Tracker has been set to private.

The privacy settings for Health Tracker can be found in the "Settings" section of My OH. To access your Health Tracker setting click My OH at the top of any page on ObesityHelp, select "Settings" on the left, click the Health Tracker tab and choose the "Sharing" option. Or, just click here to access your Health Tracker Sharing options :)

Workouts

My Workouts makes it quick and easy to log routine exercise and activity. For those who perform similar exercises on a regular basis, with My Workouts you can create a workout consisting of a series of exercises you often perform and instead logging each exercise indivivudally, My Workouts allows to log a single item (a workout) that contains all of the exericses you have performed. Build it once and log it any number of times.

Under My Workouts you will see a list of workouts that you have created and saved. You can log workouts directly from My Workouts by selecting "I did this", choose the day and click "Save"

You can also search for workouts you have created directly from your Exercise Log.

Create your first workout now!

One other addition

For your convenience, in this release we have also made some changes to the account deactivation process. In case you ever have the need to deactivate your ObesityHelp account, you can access this function by clicking My OH at the top of any page on ObesityHelp, select "Settings" on the left, and under the "General" tab select "Manage". Instructions for deactivating your account can be found there.

Have a great Thanksgiving and look for more updates soon!

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about this release, please post them in this thread on the Main Message Board.

Thank you for your response.  I am hoping OHSU will actually consider doing a support group about this topic.  I agree being able to recognize what is happening and know that there are others with similar issues makes one feel less lonely.

"Do you happen to know if the OHSU support groups restricted too only those who had surgery there?"

The support meetings at OHSU are open to pre-ops, post-ops, and other interested parties no matter which hospital their surgeries are/were/will be performed.

Hope this helps!

I'm not postop yet, but that was actually a topic in the support group I went too this past Thursday with pre & post-ops.  Personally, I think it's better to be prepared & it should be dealt with up front.  The intro meeting I attended when I was first researching my options touched on it briefly - again mentioning WLS is our tool, so also encouraging support groups, counseling if needed, etc.  If folks don't know ahead of time it can happen, they may end up feeling even more alone.

Hang in there, have faith in your decision, AND you have one of the best surgeons on the West Coast for your surgery.  All the research I have done on the band - all came back to the same name, Emma Patterson MD out of Portland.  I would have gone with her if I lived closer, but I really love/trust my doctor here and it will be easier to see him for my fills/unfills since he's so close.

I think it's normal to be nervous, but like one of the other posters said - most of the complaints on the "failed" board are by people who are not following the recommendations of their doctors.
Almost all the surgeries offered right now, are good options.  If you'd like to switch to a different one, talk to your doctor. My friend was set for lapband surgery with her and changed it to bypass at her preop appointment.  She teases me cuz I'm set for lapband.  But it's a very individual decision.  With her needs, bypass was definitely the way to go.  But for what I need, I think the band is going to be great to help me reach my goal.
Take care & keep us posted!

Okay - why do you think the lap band may not work, and why don't you want a bypass?  How much reading have you done about the various surgeries?  You might try Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies or Weight Loss Surgery:  A Lighter Look at a Heavy Subject.  They are both very good at discussing the pros and cons of each type of surgery.  I think the majority of us who have had surgery have no regrets that we did it.  I have a bypass and I'd do it again every day and twice on Sundays if I had to.

You are Normal.  It will work IF you follow the doctor's plan.  Almost everyone who writes on the failed surgery forum is failing because they aren't doing what they are supposed to do.  The surgery (ANY of the WLS) will work if you do what they tell you.  It won't fix it magically - but it works if you do.  Don't be scared.  I have personally seen great WL success with the Band, Sleeve and RNY.  I assume it is the same for DS only I don't know anyone who has had it.
