Hi Everyone,

Sorry late notice but heres the reminder for our support group meeting tomorrow night. Wednesday Oct. 21st.  6pm. We are now meeting in the Birthing Center building, Building D. Parking is available in the parking garage and also across the street in the ER parking.

An advanced notice, I am excited to announce we will be having a guest speaker the first meeting in November. Dr. Bob Ruiz. That will be November 4th. Dr. Ruiz is a Naturalpathic physician and also specializes in skin rejuvenation treatments. I believe he will be giving a presentation on this but will be open to questions.

Hi Chelea,

I couldn't make it to the meeting tonight but I was wondering if there were any handouts that were given. And if by chance you might have some copies you could email or fax to me.

Thanks
Pam

Topic: RE: Long time no check in
I can't believe you are on here, because it has been even longer since I have checked in.  Life just gets so crazy!  I am happy with where I am as far as my surgery.  I never lost the bit I gained about a hear and a half ago, but I halted it from going any further.  My thyroid was low, I'm in some sort of menopausal purgatory, and I'm pushing fifty.  Approaching five years and maintaining 85% of my 176 loss is SUCCESS in my book.  I still feel it guiding not my choices so much as my ability to overindulge.

I do facebook!  Well I got on to share pictures, so unlike my kids who have hundreds of friends, I have about 10!  I know I log on with my old E-mail of [email protected] but my last name is Cassady.  Come be my friend!  I've got lots of pictures from this summer.  Anyone else out there your welcome too.  If I might not recognize your name just add WLS so I'll know it's you.

I can't stand that Jen is facing another surgery.  I want to know where she is on her health issues.  I feel so bad!!

Topic: RE: so so dizzy!?!?!?!
I struggled with the same thing.  It was low blood pressure, with the added suspicion that getting dehydrated did tend to make it worse.  The moving positions, feeling dizzy and seeing black for a bit when I stood up, were part of it for me.  I fretted and didn't like it, but in the end it gradually went away.  I also remember my hand going to sleep if I was in certain positions too long.  My theory is that it was just part of my body reacting to such a sudden drop in my weight and/or the residuals from the surgery?  I would see my PCP - I know I did several times.  Doctors will always react to high blood pressure, but I haven't found one who cares how low mine runs now.  I am a worry wart and wanted to know what was wrong at the time, but like I say, it just got better after a while.  I learned to hang on to something and wait a bit after I stood up.

Good luck - hope it goes away!

Thanks Linda!

I did call Kaiser today, as I found the explanation they had of the coverage very fuzzy. I'm posting this in case someone else is as confused as I am about what will be best for me and my family.

According to some nameless female voice, they basically do what your PCP recommends. Generally that recommendation would be in network, which is in Clackamas. However the Kaiser site does say that for patients in Salen and Kelso, WA, referrals are for treatment at local hospitals.

Normally I'd not consider switching, but my PCP's clinic seemed understaffed, even before H1N1. I've got no idea what Kaiser is like, tho. DH had it years ago and recalled that it involved alot of waiting - LOL! Not sure how accurate that may still be.

Carol from the Bariatric Support Group shared this product with the group. I bought some this weekend and they taste pretty good. Plus they are a good price. It is has around 3 or 4 carbs, 80 calories and 12 g of protein. They even taste good. Just a thought :o)  Check it out.  You can view the Nutrition facts at http://www.mymealcoach.com/food-info.php?foodid=59901&

Patty - I'm an Oregon PEBB person.  Down here in Eugene, we can only get the Providence option.  They have told us that it is exactly the coverage we had with Regence BC/BS, so I would assume that for bariatrics, the surgeons have to be in a center of excellence.  That would mean you can go to OHSU, Legacy, St. Charles (Bend), Sacred Heart at Riverbend (Eugene), or Dr. Tersigni (I think is now a COE) over on the coast.  There may be a place in Corvallis too.

She's a friend from another board (BMI > 50) and probably saw my post in her MY OH and got confused. No worries.

How are you doing with that band, Dr. Tina?

Topic: Health Tracker Update: Meals and Reports

Last week we released two major updates. First was the public release of OH Groups where any ObesityHelp member can now create their own Group. Second was the addition of Activity Tracking to Health Tracker, which provides a robust and easy to use tool to track and monitor your exercise and activity. Today we have added My Meals and an Activity vs. Weight Loss Report to Health Tracker.

My Meals

My Meals allows you to group and store multiple food and beverage items as a custom meal that can be used over and over again. If you have meals that you eat on a regular basis, you will no longer need to log each food item individually.

To access My Meals, go to your Health Tracker in My OH and click on the Nutrition tab. You will see My Meals listed under Nutrition.
Creating a new meal works similar to your Food Log. You can search for food items on the right and add the foods to the meal on the left. A Calorie Breakdown chart and Nutrient Summary Label are also available for each meal.

Once a meal is created you can add that meal to your Food Log from My Meals by clicking "i had this" or you can search for the meal from your Food Log.
When searching for a meal to add to your Food Log, all meals will be returned when "My Foods" is selected in search. So, to "drill down" on meals that you have created, select to only show "My Foods." When a new meal is created it may require up to 30 minutes for that meal to be indexed and become searchable.

Activity vs. Weight Loss Report

Adding to the Macronutrient and Export Reports previously available, there is now an Activity vs. Weight Loss Report. This report will allow to compare Average Time in Activity vs Weight over time, providing you with further insight into what impact physical activity as on weight loss and weight loss maintenance. In Health Tracker, click Reports and then select Activity vs. Weight Loss.

We hope these additions to Health Track reduce the time required to log your daily food intake and makes it easier to view how physical activity impacts your weight.

Create your first meal now!
