Topic: RE: MEDICAID AND MEDICARE SURGEONS LIST!
Hello
Could you slit this Board to Medicaid and another to Medicare though they sound alike they VASTLY different as medicaid is Administer by STATES and Paid for by Feds, Medicare is Fededrally Aminded and they offer totally diderent services. Those of us on SSI do not get the Medicared Benefits and I am not ever going to get Federal Benefts.....
Thank you. I think this would clear up many issues of confusion.

Topic: PEBB Enrollment - New State Health Plans
I spent some time today trying to understand what the differences are in the Bariatric coverage for the new 2010 state-wide plan administered by Providence and the Kaiser option. Both appear to cover WLS, but I can't seem to find the details on what hospitals and surgeons are in the networks.
I understand that Kaiser usually steers their patients to Kaiser docs. Does anyone know who that would be in Oregon?
I see links to OHSU from the Prodidence site. Is this where they require the surgery?
Geez I hate open enrollment when the options don't seem easy to research.

I attended OHSU's support group today and really enjoyed Bob Wilson's presentation. It is along the same lines as the class I am attending with Dr. Christine Jensen, "Changing from the inside out." Bob is quite a bit more animated than Christine. He shares his personal experiences with weight loss and addictions. He has a book out that appears to have a lot of good information and resources. His website is http://balancedweightmanagement.com. He talks about meditation, loving ones-self and how to get back on track when you have fallen off. Bob will be speaking again on 10/20 at the 6:30 PM meeting at the Center for Health and Healing.

I have BC/BS PEBB. My BMI was 40.1 at my first appointment -- that's what counts. Yes, I had to lose 5% before surgery and that put me under a BMI of 40, but I was there BEFORE the 5%, so that was what mattered. My BMI is now 27 -- life is good. Enjoy the ride.

I have the same insurance and a similar BMI. Your Surgeon's program will get you approved for the pre-testing you need, it sounds like you may have enough to qualify. Your job will be to lose the 5%. Get started onlosing it as soon as you have an official weight recorded with the surgeon's office. While you are losing the 5% you can do the pre-test requirements. As soon as you hit the 5% let your surgeons office know and they will seek approval for the actual surgery. It can be done. I started on July 1st and had my surgery on September 22nd. I could have had in late August but the surgeon was on vacation.
