Topic: 'Changing From the Inside Out' class through Providence
I have signed up to take the class 'Changing From the Inside Out' (Weight Management,) which started last night, from Dr. Christine Jensen (July support group speaker.)  This class is through Providence Hospital.   It is Tuesday nights so I will miss that support group but I think this will be very beneficial. Mark, my husband has chosen to take it also to help with some of his eating issues and support me with mine.

The first class was great. There are a couple of other people from the support group in the class which is great.  Dr. Christine Jensen is very non-descript looking but her command of people is amazing. The class is on emotions and some techniques on how to overcome emotional eating. There is a lot of participation required and she would like the group to get closer knit, as it makes for a more successful class. The focus is self-examination. I really enjoy her use of quotes. Like "It's not what you eat, it's what's eating you." I am really looking forward to the next 9 weeks.

I think when my husband went in he was there to support me but by the time he left he was there for himself, which I thought was great!

Class information:
Get to the root of your weight problem by identifying thoughts and feelings that affect your eating and activity patterns. In this group setting you will share your stories and unravel the complex path... that has led to emotional eating. You'll learn new skills to overcome emotional eating patterns, in this ten week group program.

Instructor: Christine Jensen has a Ph.D. in nutrition and is a Registered Dietitian. She has been helping others understand and confront their emotional eating patterns with Providence Health & Services for almost 10 years, and developed the curriculum for this program.

That is too bad.  That surprises me. Did they say why he couldn't do it?  Too big or too deep or what.  Could he recommend someone who might?   Julia

I agrfee wAuntie M.  I don't live in Coos Bay but I do work with the doctors at North Bend Medical Center.  There is a bariatric unit at the hospital there now - so I imagine the PCP's are all becoming quite familiar with bariatric patients.  If you stick with the clinic right there sharing the property with the hospital, I'm sure you'll get internists/family practice who will be familiar with whatever WLS issues/questions as they arise.

Hi Julia - I wrote to Dr. Jewel and outlined everything I needed for the scar revision/tummy tuck and he had Edie call me and tell me he can't help me with my scar.  Geez!  First it was no one could help me with my back, now no one wants to help me with this horrible scar.  If I get the flu this year, I will go out of my mind.  The pain when I cough or sneeze is incredible.  I guess I will probably have to find a surgeon in Portland, as I did with my back.  I hate having to go that far away.

Please read this blog before considering it!  Many American doctors won't do fills/unfills for those who were banded in Mexico.

I am new to this board.

I am researching lapbanding in Mexico, and hope to get it done soon.

Can you share your experience, if you had it done in Mexico,

Heidi

I was sent a PM by someone asking me to respond to your post.

I had mine done in MX and then my revision to a sleeve.  I really wouldn't suggest a band in Mexico until you verify that you'll have follow up care when you get home unless you want to keep traveling to MX for aftercare.

Sleeves have better weight loss, fewer long term complications, and NO maintenance.

For surgeons in MX some are fantastic and some are butchers, just like in the US.  You have to do a lot of research.

Make sure they are a full fellow of FACS, avoid dangerous cities such as Tijuana and Juarez, don't go to someone that nobody has ever heard of, make sure they are board certified in surgery, avoid clinics and opt for hospitals, etc.

If you look at my profile you will see a long list of how to research Mexican band surgeons and another on how to research a Mexican sleeve surgeon.

Good luck to you!

That is where Tricare referred me.  I'm having a heck of a time pinning down an actual doctor.  No one wants to see Tricare people.  I think I'm going back to the drawing board (ie. going to see our local Tricare rep who thankfully is right down the street from where I live).

I just want my labs drawn really.  I have an online support group who can help me interpret them and direct me to what supplements to add.
