First I would see a doc about dealing with your depression because that just makes you unable to move forward. Next contact Overeaters Anonymous to see if they have chapter near you. Just like substance abuse, food abuse needs support from others dealing with the same issue. As you point out it is one thing to leave drugs and alcohol alone but far more difficult when you have to eat to stay alive. Does your surgeon have a support group? Or see if any other bariatric surgeons near you have a support group you can join. I wish you well, hang in there and take it one step at a time!

I'm seeing Dr Patterson at OWLS also. I think she's pretty knowledgeable and has an excellent reputation. She's a little 'direct', businesslike, not sweet and cuddly at all, but I have confidence in her abilities and I don't need a hug, so it's just what I need. I met her once about a month ago, for about 10 minutes and I'm having my surgery Monday 7/12, so I'm pretty sure I'll see her for a few minutes then, too, maybe even after
I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.   24lbs lost pre-surgery. I'm 5'2.

Topic: CLOTHING EXCHANGE!!

Hello fellow Pacific North Westerners! I am attempting to organize a clothing exchange for JULY 17th...7-9 pm. We all have gained and lost  and along the way accumulated clothes. I would like to share some of mine that are in NEW, EXCELLENT and GOOD condition with you and would like to invite others to do the same! I am not charging a cost  and would require the same from those who participate unless it is a special item like formal wear ... then you can price it and maybe have luck selling it. I would like it to be that we bring clothes worthy of passing on and sharing with others who know and value our struggles. A fun way to find and share clothes as well as meet others who understand and relate! I will go through if I know for sure at least 6-8 people commit to participating. I have reserved my apartment club house for the event and hope that you will join me!! I live in Oregon City..just down from Clackamas Com. Col. PLEASE Contact me if you want and need more details or would like to participate. I really look forward to making this happen and am willing to rotate locations with those who join!! Refreshments and snacks on ME!!

Topic: Need help on selecting a Medicare advantage plan in Oregon
Hi all,

I just moved here to Oregon and am in the process of selecting a Medicare advantage plan.

I am pre-op and looking to get either the DS or VSG. Does anyone have any recommendations for advantage plans that cover the surgeries? I am covered by both medicare & medicaid.  It bothers me that Medicare it self will cover the DS but all depending on the plan I pick will determine if THEY will cover it!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you..

Liz

Hi

I had Dr halpin also. Had surgery on April 2010. Have lost 55lbs so far. She was very easy to talk to and to answer all my question in terms I could understand not the big fancy $6 dollar words that make you say what the heck did she just say. I would recomend her to anyone thinking of having this surgery.

Oh, cool! I'm a patient of Dr. O'Rourke's, too - my surgery is coming in a couple of days (the morning of Tuesday, July 6). Nice to meet you!

Topic: RE: Surgeon in Oregon Doing VSG/Sleeves?
Dr. Jessica Folek from Oregon Bariatric Center (Sacred Heart) has had extensive training in doing sleeves. She really wanted to do that for me, but my insurance wouldn't approve it.
