I had a spinal fusion in November 2008.  They couldn't finish the surgery in the first go-round, so they kept me for four days and then tried again.  I awoke from that surgery screaming in pain.  The nurse not only wouldn't give me more pain meds (albeit the orders she had been left with were to make me as comfortable as possible), but she turned the light off and shut the door on me.  A friend of mine arrived to find me screaming, crying, alone in the dark with no blankets.  NOT good care.

Wow, Sorry you had such bad after care. I've had four surgeries there in four years and have ALWAYS had wonderful service! Sorry you had to deal with short-staffed problems! I know it does happen at times.

Home Depot has Aetna and the plan covers bypass, band, and DS but not the sleeve yet :(

Both places are going to look for a qualified condidate and someone they think will be successful with the surgery.  Shy of any serious mental conditions or other health (heart) condition that would prevent you from having the surgery, I do not think either will turn you down, insurance is often the problem.  From what I have heard anymore they do most often they do it laparoscopicly again shy of any health conditions you might have that would prevent it being done that way.  To get your question answered you really need to go in and talk to the professionals.  You are going to hear this a lot "everyone is different."  Having the RNY is the best decision I ever made.  I was not an unhappy person before just unhealthy.  Now I am very healthy and happy.  Good luck!
