Hi everyone. I had my GBS on Dec.7th. I feel a lot better than I thought I would. I am a Sgt. with NYPD & I thought this would be a good place to vent & deal with the inevitible job issues. Two other cops in my command have had GBS as well. Hope the lame doughnut jokes will stop. Good luck to everyone. Happy Holidays. Jay

Hi Jay, Congrats on the surgery. I had mine on 10/10 and I'm down 53 pounds. I'm a dispatcher for the Keyport PD in NJ and planning on becoming a police officer when I reach my goal weight. The next test date is in October '06, so I have enough time to get there. One of the officers I work with also had wls last year and he is doing incredibly well. I'm so glad I did this. Although going out tonight for a girls night out with the women of my department was a little difficult. I wanted to eat everything in sight lol. Good luck to you. Carol

Hi Jay, This isn't the most active board but I check in to see if anybody new has shown up every once in a while. I am a soon to be sergeant in the Houston PD. I had my surgery on 9/29/05. I have lost 55 lbs so far. I have only told a couple of people at work that I had the surgery. I get comments daily about how much weight I have lost. Its nice but I will be glad when I get my new assignment where no one will know how much weight I've lost. Hopefully the rest of the loss will be slow enough so that it won't be such a big deal. I do feel much better now and I am loving life. Take care and be careful! Jacinda

Hope you are lucky like me. The state has had to buy so many new uniforms for me. I love seeing the look on the guys face every time when I go for a new set at $65 per pants $45 per shirt x 6 $15 for belt. I think I will take a pitcure when I go in for $400 in jakets and rain gear.

Hello, I am a Police Officer in the Pittsburgh, PA area. I have always struggled with my weight, but trained really, really hard to graduate the police academy while weighing 230 lbs. I am now between 240 and 250. I feel like I have gained 100 lbs since I graduated 5 years ago, but it's just the lack of exercise that is really making me feel fatter. I am really tired of jerks that will automatically refer to my weight when I am arresting them, like, "You're under arrest."..."F-you, fat f-ing pig!" Ummm...hello, I know I'm fat and you telling me just makes me angrier...jerk! Lately, I have become embarrassed to even do traffic stops! I have only started to look into this surgery and every day that I come onto this website, I look forward to having it done. I don't plan on telling anyone that I work with. Sorry for rambling. This is the first post that I have responded to. It's nice to meet you Dee

Hey Jay, I had surgery almost exactly 1 year ago. Feb 28th will be 1 year, I am down 130 lbs and feeling great. Make sure you stick to your program, I have not followed mine to a t and my weightloss has slowed down a lot.
