No NSAIDS after surgery? Are you serious?? How the heck am I going to deal with my lower pelvic pain. Right now I'm taking 1 or 2 800mg ibuprofens every day, which works usually, except for days like this, where I am still in a lot of pain. I can't imagine not taking NSAIDS. I know I can't, and I won't... but that SUCKS... Tylenol 3 (dr. prescribed) only helps with knocking me out so I can sleep at night... I think this sucks more than giving up all sugars/carbs

Topic: Fertility /Metformin PCOS Questions.
Hello.

I just got back from my OBGYN visit and I talked to her about conceiving after my weight loss is complete. I had told her that I would like to be placed back on Metformin as I have PCOS to help with conceiving. My Hubby and I have tried now for 10 years to conceive, but never sucessfully did (I feel because of my weight and the PCOS).

I only had a period maybe twice  year and I did not ovulate at all. I am not even sure I am ovulating now. I have lost over 120 pounds and I have had a normal 28-30 cycle since August of 2009. I have tried those ovualtion answer tests and I did have an LH surge last month with the cervical mucus and all, but then I was told by another fellow PCOS pal that the Ovulation tests don't always give accurate reults for women with PCOS.

I had my RNY labs done last month and my insulin resistance was checked. It was within normal range! This made me so happy, but my OBGYN is now telling me that I shouldn't need Metformin if I am no longer insulin resistant and having normal cycles. I guess after 10 years of trying I just don't feel I can get pregnant anyways so I may need the help of the meds, maybe even Clomid. How can I tell if I am ovulating for sure if I have PCOS? Is the OBGYN correct? This was my 1st time seeing her. I wasn't convinced. I just want things to work. I have tried so hard to make a change and fix me.

I quit taking mine and I was on 2000mg.  I still take one small actos pill, but I really don't even think that I need that.  My blood sugars have been great!!! Not sure if taking the Met again would help the weight come off any faster though.

I have mirena IUD. You can always get it taken out when you are done and don't have to worry about absorption issues with a pill.

Just curious if you stopped taking metformin after surgery. I was on 2250 which are 3 huge 750, Really I can't imagine taking them with my tiny tummy and don't really want the bathroom issues since my insides were arranged and haven't really 'settled' down yet.

Hi there - I have a couple of suggestions that may help ...
There is a helpful website and book called Taking Charge of your Own Fertility - they explain alot, provide natural suggestions for many things and is helpful to under cycles and such.
In terms of low basal results - read up on the source I mentioned, and about thyroid function relating to basal temps.
I think, from my experiences, if you are having feedback from doctors that your ovaries are working well, I would be relaxed in your efforts to conceive and learn what you can about how your own body works - hang in there, I hope the resource I suggested helps ...

Blessings ...

Have checked out your husband yet? I have PCOS, and like infertility problems and all, but I haven't have my WLS yet. We went to a specialist for me but we the Dr. said we need to run blood work and a sperm count too. I assumed "this quack is just trying to run our bill up!"  But come to find out- his count came up as ZERO!!! Dr. went ahead and did a 2nd check and ZERO again, So now we know its not just me. he said there was hope though. He needs a bi-opsy to find out if he has sperm and his "pipes" are broken or he isn't producing sperm at all. If its the latter one then he can just take a monthly injection (think its only for 3 mo. but not positive) to get production going. Or if the pipes are broken then he may have to just got with artificial insemination or IVF (if mine can't be fixed or if the AI doesn't take)

Well I hope this gave you at least an idea to check that out. I know I feel better that even if we never get preggers I am not only at fault, its both of us! And many times we've talked about how weired it is that we both have fert. problems, and we found each other. Maybe we are supposed to do something else with our lives. And then I think the reason may be because we wouldn't be good parents. I have such a nurturing nature and a yearning to be a mommy, but when my siblings kids are acting crazy loud or messing up my house, I get either soo mad or soo frustrated and annoyed. So only time will tell for us, but I hope this could help you.

Good Luck!!!!

Topic: RE: Metformin
I just Posted this on another Metformin post so I'll just copy & paste it here.

I was put on met. by a fertility specialist in Mexico that had helped to get 3  of my husbands family members pregnant. Since we only got once a year (twice if I'm lucky)  we went ahead and bought a years worth of the Met. and folic acid that he put me on. Down in Mexico you can buy your meds from the pharmacy or straight from the dr.(for those that may not know, the meds are all packed in sealed bubble packs or sealed  bottles) Anyhow, I bought the pills from the Dr. I took them just as he told me, and in the next 4 months I gained 60lbs! I continued to take them but when I really started seeing the weight on me I quit taking  them both. I couldn't figure out what else was causing such a drastic weight gain. By the time we went back to Mexico the next year I had gain a total of 100 lbs! Mind you- I was heavy for all my life and weighed within 20 lbs of 275lbs from when I was about 15 to 25-26 years old, when I started taking the Met. I'm assuming it may have been where I got it or something cause I know not ALL med are safe in Mex. you could get a bad batch or something. Needless to say, I DO NOT take any more meds from down there,(except Tylenol and cold meds- the got the best stuff)

Oh yeah and the whole time I was taking the meds I never once got my period! Then last year my coworker was talking about how she was taking Met for PCOS and after I told her my story she said I should take some of hers. I know its a no no but I did it and in just 2 days I got my period!! I couldn't believe they would work that fast. But after not having it for almost 15 months(not since the Mexican Dr. gave me a shot to force me to have a cycle) I though that would be one crazy coincidence!

Anyways, I always like to warn people when they talk about Met. because to this day IDK if it was the pills or my body didn't agree with, that form of treatment.

Topic: RE: PCOS and RNY
Its those little balls of skin that grow, usually more on over weight people and VERY common on woman with PCOS. They pop up around the neck and underarms, and I guess people get them, more often around their skin folds.
They Are Not Pretty! Your dermatologist will freeze them and  cut them off but its not usually covered by your insurance. I think I paid like $130+visit (the visit was covered minus the 20% that's my responsibility) for up to 8 to get cut off. I only had like 4 or 5 and some little ones that I didn't worry about but since I was being charged I found all 8 for her to do while I was paying for it.
You can also tie something around them and eventually the will turn black and fall off, my husband did a big one for me with horse maine hair. Its soo strong! and the thing came off in about a week but it was huge. I remember my mom doing it with a thread or ey string, but keep in mind the DIY ones 1) hurt like hell and 2) leaves the skin just a little discolored but it still looks alot better than the skin tag.
