My cycle has been normal every since having my surgery in June, 2003.
Topic: RE: RNY slow or no weight loss with PCOS
I had gastric bypass surgery March 31, 2010. I lost 13 pounds before the surgery and 12 after the surgery. I am down 25 pounds and feeling soooo good. I am still tired since the surgery but I actually have to remind myself to eat and try hard to get all my protein in. So far it is the best decision I ever made. I has only been 2 weeks since my surgery.
This surgery will work for you and you will feel so different. I know it is early for me but I can feel the changes. Good Luck with all and don't worry. You worked hard to get this far, now go all the way and you will be happy.

Topic: Need some advice... Thank you
Hello everyone, So I wanted to check in and run a couple things by you guys, I haven’t been that active in this forum, but I’m looking for some advice.
First off the history: My husband and I have been together for coming up on 8 years married and 10 together. Since being married we have not use birth control consecutively for more than a few months at a time and always figured in the beginning that we would let nature take it’s course. Before RNY on May 7, 2009 I was at my heaviest ever around 390 lbs, I got down to 351 the day of surgery and now I’m at 250 with another 60 to go, which is going REALLY slow…. My whole like doctors have talked about PCOS and Metabolic X diagnosis and I’ve been on Metformin in the past to attempt to regulate cycles. My cycles have never been normal, I’ve gone years in the past without having one. Since surgery I’ve had four periods, one started when I went on birth control again and lasted for 6 weeks very heavy and then they put me on Provera to stop it, since then I haven’t taken anything and had a period on my own in December and February and nothing since. I’ve had some signs of ovulation but not consistently. I have all the signs of PCOS- excess hair, hard time losing weight, skin coloration, insulin resistance etc. I’ve had my ovaries looked at and they say that there are follicles and that they appear healthy without cysts. Recently I’ve been worrying a lot about having babies and it’s really something I want, I’m worrying because I’m 30 and things haven’t happened yet on their own and I’m getting ready to go see a Dr about infertility stuff… This week I started charting my Basal Body Temp and I’ve used Ovulation prediction kits some..
So my questions:
I’ve had a BBT of 96.1, 96.19 etc this week and that seems really low to me, I know I’ve read that the range is 97-99 but this seems weird and I’m starting to worry about it?
Do people feel that PCOS has affected your ability to lose your weight or meet your goals successfully?
Any advice on what I should do?
Thank you!
Jenn

201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!
And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!
Surgery Date: 6/5/07
I was on Yaz before my RNY...I am almost 3 years post op & PCOS is GONE GONE GONE!!
Today I use the Nuvaring as we don't absord the pill properly and the ring is consistant without malabsorption issues.
I went back on BC within a week of my WLS.

I am close to 3 years post op and I can tell you I for one had no issues with slow or no weightloss. As of last week I am down 172 pounds from my heaviest. I am maintaining my weightloss and loving my RNY!!
I think we all had/have fears in the beginning of "what if this doesn't work for me" the thing you have to remember is WLS is a tool it is all in how you use it!
All the best!!

it could just be hormone fluctuations causing some release of the built up uterine lining
if still concerned, make an appt. with the OBGYN
good luck

Topic: RE: PCOS -- METFORMIN- WEIGHT LOSS
It was only temporary for me. After I got use to the Metformin, I was back to feeling hungry all the time again.

my period returned to normal the very next month, i hadnt had a cycle on my own in over 3 years prior to surgery! no new skin tags since surgery. I had dark skin patches on my neck and one on my face under my lip, all completely disappeared after losing the first 40-50 lbs. Energy level shot up and definitely be careful if you've had fertility issues, i was told i would not conceive without medical intervention and here i am 6 months pregnant w/out any medical help! I agree with Julia. You either feel sick or simply not hungry.

I was on Metformin and from what I know, is it kind of curbs your appetite. Or makes you feel a little sick so you aren't hungry. And that's why you lose weight. Thats what I noticed it did for me. I was basically sick or just not hungry. I can't say I lost weight from it, but it made me feel sick in the beginning of taking it.
