Topic: RE: PCOS -- METFORMIN- WEIGHT LOSS
I was on Metformin and from what I know, is it kind of curbs your appetite. Or makes you feel a little sick so you aren't hungry. And that's why you lose weight. Thats what I noticed it did for me. I was basically sick or just not hungry. I can't say I lost weight from it, but it made me feel sick in the beginning of taking it.

My doc has put me on metformin because i have PCOS. She has refered me to a OBGYN to get looked at better. I am in the weight wise program here in canada and since i started .. i have lost 14 pounds... in 2 months. I have made some suttle changes to what i eat .. at my dietians request.. and im just wondering... is the weight loss ... from METFORMIN.. or from the little bit i have changed... changing from 2 % to 1% milk.. Started Eating breakfast, no more pop, food journaling, recording my steps.

Topic: RE: RNY slow or no weight loss with PCOS
I had RNY surgery 12/16/2010. I'm 5'11". I had a starting weight of 380lbs. I was 348 lbs the day of surgery. This week I'm down to 277 lbs. That's 103 lbs down from my highest weight. I've had PCOS for over 17 years. My weight would only go up and up, no matter what I did. Since surgery, I have more energy to do what I want. I exercise about 2 hours a day, 5 days a week.
This surgery will force you to eat smaller meals. PCOS caused me to eat a lot. The surgery forced me to change my ways. I too was worried that I would not lose much weight. As long as you remain focused and still to your doctors plan, you will be successful.

Topic: RE: Birth control?
What birth control are you going to use? If you don't mind. I just can't imagine going back on birth control after the amount of money I've spent on infertility treatments!
Topic: RNY slow or no weight loss with PCOS
Hey ladies! I have a question about WLS and PCOS. My main concern is not loosing weight after surgery. I have jumped through all the hoops and not I've got my date (May 17, 2010) and through all of the Dr. apts and Psych evaluation and all that, my concern have been not loosing weight after the surgery. I've read alot on this forum and looked at alot of the ladies profiles that have posted on the PCOS thread and most all of them seem like they've lost plenty of weight. Still I have the fear of my own success. I've dieted and exercised like crazy throughout my teen and adulthood and now I am praying for my success with this.
If you girls with PC OS could tell a lil bit of your stories maybe a beginning weight and how much, in how long, it took you to loose your weight after your surgery.
I'm starting at about 375 5'10" and my goal is 160 (but anything under 200lbs would make me sooo happy) Even to just take off 100 lbs too would help, But I'd feel terrible for anything under say, 75lbs you know.

I have pcos and am having rny Tuesday. My surgeon says to wait between 18 to 24 months. If you get pregnant before that you aren't allowing for the most weight loss to happen. You tend to drop the most weight the first 2 years and if you get pregnant during that time you won't be taking advantage of that. :-) Hope that helps a little. Good luck!!
Topic: RE: PCOS and Fertility questions( TMI and Kinda long)
I can tell you what I know, after years of infertility treatments just because you have a positive ovulation test doesn't mean you ovulate. I was under the impression that you would and it wasn't until after I had my progesterone tested 7 days past ovulation that I found out that I wasn't. Ovulation tests are testing the level of LH hormone in your urine you may have the spike in LH but still not ovulate.
The reason I was getting the positive test is that I was having the positive boost in LH but my progesterone was not high enough to ovulate.
I do not believe that it is normal for you to bleed after ovulation unless you have implantation bleeding. Imlantation bleeding usually can happen 5-10 days after ovulation and it is the fertilized egg burrowing into the uterus. It usually only lasts a day and it doesn't happen for every woman.
I think you're body is going through lots of changes after loosing that much weight. Your hormones are probably going crazy and are trying to regulate themselves.
Hope this helps!

Topic: Birth control?
Hi Ladies!
I have been off birth control for 3 years now and though I don't have PCOS I can't get pg. I will be having RNY in the next month and was wondering if you all went on bc before or after? What type of bc? How long did you DR recommend you wait before TTC?
Thanks in advance-
Lib

Topic: RE: Thanks Dr. Phil for that NOT informative bit on PCOS
Okay, so thank god some people know that IR and Diabetes are NOT the same thing! I was in the hospital and in fact the first surgeon I saw for WLS none of them knew. I would say I have IR and PCOS they would say " So your Diabetic? " I'm like Nooo! Its very annoying. I had to drive 3 hours to another surgeon who knows what IR and PCOS is. Thank goodness. I feel uncomfortable when my doctor has no clue what I am talking about.
In the hospital it was sooo annoying I was in for an infection every 4 hours they would come and ***** my finger to check my blood sugar, they would come in and be like your A1C is GREAT! I'm like Duh, I'm not diabetic. okay so I'm done ranting! I just am so glad to see someone who knows better. :)
