Topic: PCOS??? I'm going to see my Dr on Monday.
Hi Everyone,

I am a revision from Lap Band to VSG.  I'm 49 years old. Before my surgeries, I was 204 lbs, I'm 5'1".  I was Type II diabetic, high blood pressure, high cholesterol.   My last period was 04-17-08.  I  was tested to see if I have menopause it came out negative. I had a ultra sound a couple of years ago and it should that I did have those cysts.  However, the doctor said that as long as I had no pain there is no big hurry to go in and operate.     I have always had weight problems since I was 27 years old, mainly the in the belly, I would say I have an apple shape.  Skinny small hands and feet, skinny legs.  I have only lost 29 lbs with the VSG.  Is there a chance that I have PCOS?  Does Metformin help?  That's what I've heard.  Ok, I'm not the best in keeping the exercise going, but I'm working on that.  I do eat most of the time my protein first.  I do eat occasionally white carbs and that I know is a no, no, I can't help that is what I like, the desire never left.

Please give me your thoughts.

Thanks.

LOADS WERE IMPROVED! I'm not insulin resistant anymore, off blood pressure meds, sleep better (didn't have sleep apnea but was prob getting close), knees don't grind & make horrible noises going up & down stairs, I have loads more energy & of course mentally, I feel new & inspired. Still on synthroid-that will never go away, once thyroid is fried, it's fried. My friend had it & she had not had a period in years, now she does like clockwork (it doesn't thrill her but it  shows she's healthier) Most women that had ovulation probs now ovulate (gotta get on birth control if you can still get prego until you're 18 mo-24 mo out ) The weight loss helps to balance hormones that have been out of wack & lots of WLS people go on to get pregnant, don't know about cysts. I have PCOS but am too old (45) to try anymore for babies-if only I had this surgery 5 or so years ago instead of fertility drugs! Good Luck, it is awesome!

I am having RNY in a few days and was wondering about others.  Can anyone tell me exactly which symptoms were improved?

Thanks!

Correct! I do not take metformin or any insulin sensitizing agent. I do have an IUD for birth control purposes.

Hi!  I see that you said you had good results from Spring Street Derm.  I had laser done 10 years ago and had scars from it.  I'm nervous but your post gives me hope...as I live in NYC.  Thank you for sharing!  I'm going to make an appt. because the dark chin and lip area is really frustrating me.  Make-up can only cover so  much...sigh.

Topic: RE: Have pain like never before...
Hello,
My NP told me to use 800mg of Ibuprophen (Advil) not only because of the insane pain I have but because it actually decreases your blood flow. From extreme heavy to moderate for me. I never use Advil during the other days of the month because it is such a large amount. Because of other issues I'm usually at a 6 on the pain scale but during my periods I truly wish I were dead, the 800mg Advil works! I don't think Tylenol will work with the bld flow issues, I never take it because it makes me very ill.

Hope it helps,
Chrissy

Topic: RE: Thanks Dr. Phil for that NOT informative bit on PCOS
Of course they do!

A 60 year old man can't get a boner? They put years and millions into researching it. A 20 year old woman can't get pregnant, they tell her to lose weight.

Life is so unfair.
