I'm pre op ds, but to get preggers I 'tried' every other day, ate low carb and exercised. I had to use metformin the second time. good luck!

Topic: almost 3 weeks TAH post op??
I have been feeling lousy. I am not in pain haven't in awhile now. I was told I could drive about 10 days after my TAH and could ride the recumbent bike and walk. So I am only doing half hour on the recumbent bike and walking in the stores. I don't do any of the lifting I leave that to my kids and hubby. But lately I have been having dizzy spells when I get up and start walking around to the point that I feel the room spinning and feel like I am going to fall down on my face. I have to hold onto something and sit down right away. Also been getting bad headaches and today my back hurts and my breast feel tender as well. I just notice some pink spotting after I went to the bathroom. Is this normal to be bleeding or spotting. The last time I had this was when I was in the hospital then it stopped before I got home. Is my body still thinks I should have periods? So I am getting all the signs of a period. Maybe that is why I gain weight this week. I had gain weight after my surgery then lost it plus some but now it has fluturate from 171.2 to 173.4. I was 184 before my surgery and then 192 when I got home. Today I weigh in at 172.5. I had the gastric bypass on July 28, 2009 as well. The weight management doctor today and he is checking labs on me to make sure it isn't my anemia getting worst as well as well other vitamin levels and other labs. I see my family phsycian on Tuesday so she should get the results by then and if the blood work dont' tell us then she needs to go further with the testing. I am tired of feeling so tired all the time. I want to be able to get back to my workouts at the gym but not released to go back to the gym. I miss the treadmill and the elipitical. I also miss the whirlpool as well. I just took a percocet for my headache and my back pain. I haven't taken any pain pills in awhile because I been feeling great. Hubby can't believe that I am heal so fast and up on my feet so fast. I just dont' know what to think anymore. I just want to be normal again. I still have my ovaries they just remove the cysts on my ovaries and took out the uterus and cervix. Sunday I am going with my 15 yr son to a tae kwon do tournament in Addison Illionois and we live in Milwaukee Wisconsin. No I am not driving that far we are going to meet the team at his school and then go on a bus there. Bus leaves at 8 am sharp. Have to be there at 9 am to register. I am already planning on plenty of fluids got some gatoraide g2 low sugar/calorie and some high protein snacks for me as well. I even got a seat cushion for myself as well. Hubby staying home with our daughter.

Topic: RE: confused with which surgery to go with--VSG or Lapband
Hi!!

I have PCOS and I had the VSG. I had mine April 9th of last year. Started at 337 lbs and am now at about 193 (so I've lost about 145 so far and I'm definitely still losing.)

The VSG is the BEST thing I've ever done for myself- my only regret is not having it done sooner. I've seen so many awful experiences with the Lapband and a lot of people who end up failing with it end up getting it revised to the VSG.

Good luck with your desicion! :)

Before surgery, I had a 3 week liquid diet that consisted only of 5 Ensure High Protien drinks, and 1 cup of skim milk daily. That helped me lose about 15 lbs. Since my surgery a week ago, I have lost another 10 lbs.

They kept me in the hospital for 2 nights. It was REALLY hard to sleep in there though. I recommend bringing earplugs, they're the only reason I got any rest at all while I was there. In the hospital I felt great! But I think that was because they kept me shot up with morphine and IV Gravol.

My first couple nights at home were pure hell. I even started to wonder if I made a mistake with my decision to  get surgery.  My stomach would have these... convulsions... and I was vomitting up foamy bile and chunks of dried blood. I also had to pee at least once an hour, which was strange since I couldn't even keep water down on my own!  I almost went in to ER....  First few days the smell of food was also horrible, and made me start gagging and caused stomach convulsions.

Within a couple days I started to be able to hold my liquids, and feel a lot better. Even went on a longer walk around the neighborhood today.  Tomorrow I will be a week out from surgery.  I have not yet returned to work. I plan another week off, and a gradual return to work. My job has me on my feet all day though, but I know there is no way I could handle returning now. I'm only getting about 200 calories in a day, so I'm quite light headed and tired constantly. But at least I'm getting my fluids in. I would try to get 2 weeks off work, just to be safe. I know lots of people recover very quickly,  but I'd recommend being prepared for worst case scenerio. It is a major surgery. Even though mine was laporospic, I still have 7 incisions. Only one of them is causing me a lot of pain/discomfort now, but I stay away from painkillers.
Also, the docs said no intense exercise OR lifting more than 10lbs for about 6 weeks... which seems like forever!

Good luck with your surgery, and congrats for getting a date. This forum has been very helpful for me, finding tips and learning about how the surgery goes for most people. The support has been awesome.

WOW!! Congrats on losing 50 lbs presurgery!!  That is great!! Yes please keep me posted with how you are doing.  I have decided to get the VSG done--I am scheduled 3/12.  How are you feeling since your vsg?  You were in the hospital for 2 days?  can you please share your experience?  Painwise how r u?  Did you go back to work?  How soon? I am going to rest for about 4 days or so and then go back to work.  You think that will be enough?  How was your pre-surgery diet--did your dr have you do a liquid diet?  sorry for all these questions--i appreciate you sharing your experience.

I had my VSG done last week.  My surgeon told me he didnt think the band would get me the results I was after... and pregnancy after rny could be dangerous (i want kids someday)... which is why I chose the sleeve.  Since I'm still a newbie with the sleeve, will have to wait and see how it goes. I'd be more than willing to keep you updated in a while. I'm already off my metformin since I've lost about 50lbs presurgery. I'm hoping now the weight will come off more steady and I will be able to concieve in a couple years :)

I was off MET a few days before surgery.  My dr suggest waiting a full 6 mths before running blood test to see if I need to go back on.  It makes sense to give your body a chance to level off before testing.  Hope this helps alittle.
