Topic: RE: PCOS post RNY
I know this is an older post, but I must reply!
Don't use Depo. Just don't. They are starting to find that the Depo is causing a LOT of problems....it is to the point where they aren't offering Depo at a lot of places anymore.
Depo messed up my periods, big time. I was on it from 1997 to 2000, during which time I NEVER got a period. I went off the depo, and it took 1 year and 8 months (Dec 2000 to Aug. 2002) for me to get a period! Guess what? It was within 6 months of that - I was diagnosed with insulin resistance & PCOS. When I started the Depo, that was also when I was no longer able to lose weight.
Maybe it's all a coincidence.........maybe it's not. I sure think the timing is right on. And all of the things I'm hearing about the Depo shot - I think it will just be a matter of time before it is completely banned. Just my opinion!

Topic: RE: pcos, absent periods and a d&c??
I had a D&C. I remember reading and hearing about it ahead of time, and being scared to death!!
It was one of the easiest procedures I've ever gone through. I was knocked out, and then I was up. I do not remember having any pain, and after I went home, it literally felt like a period. It did mess up my cycle for about 6 weeks, and then I was completely straightened out.
A year later, I conceived - so it definately did not hurt my chances of having a baby at all!
Please listen to your Doctor and not regular people. Your doctor has based his/her recommendation on your daughter's case - which is completely different than anyone else's. If you feel uncomfortable, go get a second opinion, but make VERY sure that this second doc knows the ENTIRE history in order to make a sound judgement.
For the record, there was nothing emotional attached to the D&C for me. I was relieved to have it! Sometimes, they will use a D&C to "clean out" someone who has had a miscarriage, and that is where emotions would come into play.....but also keep it in mind that it is used to get a good biopsy (I had this) when they want to make sure cancer has not spread, etc - they use it to get your cycle going again as well, due to an extreme buildup of tissue....there are so many reasons and none of them are connected to one another. It's like saying "they are taking blood"......the procedure is the same for everyone, but for different reasons!!
Good luck.

Topic: RE: HELP! Surgery in 7 days; What about Metformin
I was advised to stop taking it about a week before surgery. I was on my pre-surg liquid diet, so that had alot to do with it. When you are only taking in liquid protein, your blood sugar will drop. You shouldn't need it at all.
Take care, Good Luck!!

Topic: RE: endo ambilation vs partial hystermocty
I have PCOS. I have had 4 IVF's, 1 Miscarriage of twins, have thrombophilia, 2 freezing of my uterus (endometriosis) and now with my WLS and all the exercise I guess it has caused my Uterus to collapse (prolapsed uterus). Thus, pulling down my bladder and bowel with it. YIKES!
I am meeting with a Uro- Gynecologist to find out what my options are. I am 37. Do I want to try to have more kids? *shrugs* I have two adopted daughters age 2 and 4. I am happy with what I have. But I hate to think about losing the opportunity if I changed my mind. And I don't know if it is even possible. But my nurse seems to think that the PCOS part will stop now that I have lost the weight. Anyone want to weigh in on that?
I have had a period for going on 3 months!!! I am a little over 6 months Post op. So it's quite frustrating. I have lost a lot of blood and am anemic. Just had a full blood work up and waiting on the results. I will hopefully be able to adjust my supplements accordingly to feel a bit more energetic.
I am glad to see I am not the only other person having "female related issues" after having WLS. I just want the bleeding to stop and the Weightloss to continue!!! ACK!

Forgive my medical background.. but it's endometrial ablation vs hysterectomy. (in case you want those terms to google around and find other input).
Topic: endo ambilation vs partial hystermocty
Hi,
Well I just got a call this week that my cysts on my ovaries are still there so he wants to remove them at the same time as the endo ambilation. I am debating on the endo ambilation because I am worried that my bleeding will come back or still have my periods. Also I just found I am anemic as well. I have heavy bleeding some times get it 2 times a month. I am 45 yrs old I don't plan on having any more kids mine are 12 and 15. Will a partial hystermocty stop my periods for good and ovualting as well. Is this one where you dont' have to take hormones? I just don't want to end up getting the endo amibilation and then 6 months or couple years have to get the partial hystermocty anyways. Will having the partial hystermocty help with my anemia. I am already doubling up on my iron supplement with bariatric advantage. But notice even more constipation. They want to set up the surgery I said not until I talk to him to discuss our options first. I know we talk the last time about it. But I am leaning towards the partial hystermocty. What is the recovering time between the two? I am exercising hour and half to 2 half hours a day. I got a personal trainer now and join Bally's. I am worried I would have to stop my exercise routine for awhile until I recover or get permission to exercise again. What was your experience with either one of these. Or if you had cysts removed laposcopically. Is the partial hystertocmy done the same way.
thanks

Topic: amount of lost weight
HI, I have a question. I went in for my 9 week check up with my surgeon,He said I was doing well, he then said I was losing slow and steady. what is this? first month 27 lbs. next month 20. lbs. Is this not normal? A girl friend said the same as the Doctor. I have read that having pcos make this harder and slower to lose. Nothing about my pcos is any different and now my hair is really falling out. I guess I could use some reassurance It is working and I'm not odd. My periods have shown up with a vengance. that's nice
. Has any one's process been like mine? Oh I had surgery on 11/10/09. thx
