Topic: RE: metformin question
I am a nurse, and not that I know everything but I did alot of research on this due to being put on it for Metabolic Syndrome or otherwise known as Syndrome X. You do not have diabetes or will be doomed on getting it being on it for PCOS. Doctors say things that aren't true. I work with some. LOL
Topic: RE: increased symptoms after wls?
OMG so I had not had a period in a year and a half. The day after I got home from the hospital I started...lasted a week. Exactely 4 weeks to the day later...I started again! This time was pretty heavy which I was not use to.
Today I have had pain when I use the restroom...feeling like I was going to Pee out an Overy. Tonight after getting home from shopping I am in so much pain it is all I can do to walk or sit. I feel like I am holding in all of my insides to keep them from spilling out of me! The pain is so severe and is not easing up...I am beginning to wonder if it is something else. I am due to start again on thursday so I really think it is my cycle but holy crap this is BAD!!!!

Topic: RE: Meridia
Hi,
I did take Meridia while I was on Metformin prior to Gastric Bypass. Due to my diabetic condition I was never able to lose weight no matter what I did. And I did lots. Trust me!! Meridia after about three weeks in my system did fill me up somewhat faster and I was able to lose about 10 pounds in two months. Not bad, but not great either in my books - however it did lower my BMI enough to be referred back to St. Joe's Bariatric in Hamilton. I had my surgery on Sept 4 and it has been a gift!! The biggest gift is that I am no longer on any medication at all and prior to surgery I was on five pills (including Metformin) and five needles a day to manage my diabetes. I have had nothing since the day before my surgery and my diabetic numbers are within the range of 5-6 consistantly!
Try the Meridia, give it an honest to goodness try - you may find it to work for you... And at least you will have tried...
As far as side effects, consult your pharmacy - I didn't experience any...

Topic: RE: Ruptured Ovarian Cyst (x-post)
I had 3 ruputure on me and I fainted and when I woke up, I couldnt move so my husband took me to the hospital and I was admitted overnight and I had about 4 different ultrasounds and lots of fluids. I was told it was to flush out toxins. My cysts were the size of grapefruits and I wobbled when I walked because my stomach was so huge. It was very painful. I was put on bed rest for 4 weeks and given Vicodin, Skelaxin and more Metformin and Iron.
Topic: RE: Question about taking metformin after Lap Band
Hi,
I will be having lap band surgery in January. When I picked p my refill of metformin (horsepill) on Tuesday, I told the pharmacist that I will be havin lap band surgery in January and inquired about a liquid form. She said they did have a liquid form of metformin but they couldn't just switch it. The doc would have to call in a new prescription for it.

Thank you, Mary! I think your idea about seeing an RE is a good idea. I will ask my CNM about that. Best of luck to you in the future.

Topic: increased symptoms after wls?
Hi everyone,
So, I've been hearing recently about the massive amounts of estrogen stored in fat cells that are washing through your body as you lose weight. That makes me wonder, has anyone here had trouble with endometriosis or cysts or any other symptom getting worse after losing weight? I've been on the pill for over ten years and my body had reached a kind of balance before surgery. I pretty much didn't have menstrual cycles at all - no ovulation, no periods, so no opportunity for endometriosis or cyst formation. Losing weight has totally thrown off the balance! I'm getting my period now every two weeks, and my last period - which is just ending - was terrible! I never had bad cramps, etc, even before my body got to that nice balanced place, and during this period I've had terrible cramps, bloating and fatigue plus was totally emotional. Ugh! I'm getting kind of worried. Should I call my gyn? I just saw her for my annual like a month ago, but have lost about 50 lbs since then.
thanks!
Jenny
