it is quite common for you to have periods straight out from surgery even if you havent had them in forever. your dr should have talked to you about birth control(especially for the first 1-2 years after surgery) because even those who have been told they cant get pregnant find out they actually can and it CAN be dangerous to get pregnant early out from surgery. i would stop having sex until you can get to your dr for some type of birth control.

So I've been dealing with a lot of health issues lately. PCOS, Dysplasyia, Pelvic Pain, you name it I have it (Is what if feels like). Well cancer runs in my family and have been very scared that this whole situation could turn really ugly and quick. I had suggested to my OBGYN about having a hysterectomy. Only because I have 3 kids already, had my tubes tide 6 yrs ago and don't plan on having anymore at all! I am 32 and I am worried to death about getting cancer if my situation isn't taken care of. Well I kept pushing him and he kept saying no for me to wait and just come back every 3 months so he could do a pap. Why would I do that! He did not understand that I wanted this taken care of and now. Well I went and got a second opinion and he totally agreed with me! Yay, finally someones actually listening to me. Anyways he agreed and said it would be the best thing for me specially since cancer is in my family history. I know it may be a drastic measure to try to elevate these issues I'm having. But I really need to think about my children, husband, and family. I know having this done won't cure all of my symptoms but atleast it'll will take care of some of them. I had RNY in Jan and feel fantastic!

I know! I found out the hard way, didn't have all the ugly symptoms till after my surgery. Had irregular periods 28-32 days. But that was about it, after surgery is when I started to get the wonderful facial hair, thinning of hair, and hair in other places that I didn't need it at. SUCKS!!!! But don't regret my RNY its nice to lose weight and feel a little better about myself.

What are you talking about! You've lost 100# that's awesome you are a winner! That's 100# that you have gotten rid of forever! Your only 5 months out and have done so much. I also have pcos and all the symptoms you listed. The insulin resistance is what kills the weightloss part. I am 8 months out on the 27th and have only lost half of what you have. I am at a stall and have been for about a month already. I can't get below 150#'s. My weight fluctuates day by day. I can go from one day weighing 150 and then the next I'll weigh 153. Then I'll go back down to 150. Its very frustrating but that is due to the insulin resistance. My PCP has me taking metformin which has helped a little but I need to stay away from carbs and sugars. Although pcos makes the weightloss harder to achieve it does not completely stop it. Its just that we need to work at it a little more because of this. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Also, from what I've heard metformin makes you more fertile. I am not sure how true it is because I had my tubes tide about 6 yrs ago and will now be having a hysterectomy because of the issues with pcos and dysplasyia. My OBGYN did put me on bcp's to try to regulate my period but it didn't help. It basically just stopped and haven't had one since april. Its been nice no complaints here. Well keep up the great work and don't get down on yourself. Like I said 5 months out and 100# thats awesome and a great achievement!!

if you have pcos and are considering wls dont count on the pcos going away and staying away!!!
Topic: RE: ughhh this is gross but i have to ask!
I used to get this monthly - I have PCOS and endometriosis. I have been on continuous yasmin/yaz to control since 2001.
I used to get excrutiating pain and load up on NAIDS like M&Ms for 3 days a month. Then I'd suffer from anemia.
My gyno would rather me not get a period at all now.

I understand what you are going through, because I am going through the exact same thing. I have asked my PCP and this is what I was told:
Since it has been so long since you have cycled, you have built up sluff of your endometrial lining, and it is now sluffing off. I was told that there is nothing to be worried about, as long as your paps come back normal.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

I have PCOS and didn't know anything about it. I actually had to diagnose myself because my OBGYN never did. I started to run off the symptoms and issues I was having and then he just prescribed bcps and a different type of hbp meds. I had surgery done in Jan. I've lost about 50 pounds which is awesome but have come to a major stall and know its because of the PCOS. I have major insulin resistance, was on metformin before surgery was off for a couple of months and then my PCP noticed that it was going up so she put me on again and also the same for my blood pressure. Which is all PCOS related. I have noticed like I said major stall in my weight loss haven't been able to get below 150. My weight will fluctuate between 150-153 but can't get below that. So I really do believe PCOS affects the weightloss of GBP. I have heard good raves about DS. But its just a more complicated procedure because they totally cut your stomach off from your pouch. But they say its really good for people who have high blood pressure, diabetic and other co morbidity's. I think if I would have known about it before never looked into it. I would have opted for that surgery. I know I would have been totally freaked out but atleast I wouldn't have to deal with the high blood pressure and blood sugars anymore. But who knows I've heard there is no cure for PCOS. All you can do is just basically control its symptoms. Some may go away but not all and I think the insulin resistance is the one that doesn't and from what I've looked into and read that the culprit that doesn't let you lose weight! Well good luck with your PCOS and all you have to do is google PCOS and it brings up a bunch of info regarding it.

Topic: Introducing myself
hi there! My name is Jen, I'm almost five months post surgery (5/7/09- GBP) and have lost almost 100 lbs. I've never had regular periods my whole life and have only ever had one without medication assistance such as birth control. I've had tons of testing and fit all the PCOS signs and symptoms including the extra hair growth, inability to lose weight easily and insulin resistance. The weight was flying off for the first couple of months and now i'm getting scared because it's slowed down and has stopped for about three weeks. I'm scared I did this big surgery for nothing and i'm scared that I'm never going to figure out what's wrong with me. I'm also scared that I'm never going to have kids. I thought losing some weight might jumpstart the whole period thing, but nothing, the doc wants me to go on birth control, but as long as it's been without one it's kind of scary to think of doing in again too. Weird I know. So I usually hang out on here in th Maine forum, but someone suggested I check this out. So Hello! Nice to meet you all! maybe you will be able to help!
