Topic: Not sure if I have PCOS...
I've actually never been tested for PCOS & I'm not sure how to go about doing so. Do I speak to my GP? Or my gyno?

Anyway, I'm supposed to be starting birth control to help regulate my periods.. but I haven't started my period to be able to start the Sunday after my period starts & I think my weight is to blame. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do? Call my doctor? Wait it out?

Topic: RE: WLS/Hysterectomy
My weightloss has slowed down due to the IR. I have labs done just about every month with my PCP and she's even stumped about why my fasting insulin is so high. I'm not sure whats going on. I am taking metformin and spiro for my b/p and was also taking b/c but did not help so I just stopped taking it completely. I would prefer a total hysterectomy to avoid any future surgery. Cancer runs in my family so thats an added issue. Hopefully getting it approved is as easy as having my RNY approved it only took a couple of days to get the answer. Keeping my fingers crossed have referral for new OBGYN lets see what he says......

I agree with your doc as I was told the same thing by my doc ( but for a fallopian tube issue). They still consider that area to be healing even 5 mos out and most docs you find do not want want to rescar the area for some time. Actually, I'm 4 yrs out and my doc didnt want to retouch my surgery area unless it was a high health risk being posed to me. I had some cysts reappear too, but I had also started to carb up while that happened. So I had to eliminate my carbs again and I went back on metformin  for 3-4 months to rid myself of my cysts. Not sure if you're able to do the same at this point, but if you have reintroduced carbs back into your diet, possibly consider eliminating them again. My doc says thats what was most likely making mine resurface after having them gone for 3+yrs. Hope Ive helped some.

Did you put carbs back into your diet?

high amounts of carbs can mess with your glucose and hormone levels... which can mess up your period...

Topic: pcos returns????
i am a little over a year out from surgery and until 5 months ago my periods were more regular than they have ever been. suddenly they are erratic again. i have gone as much as 7 weeks between periods. when i do have them they are heavier than usual and more painful. before surgery, i was on metformin ( was put on it originally for the pcos and then later stayed on it for type 2 diabetes). i know the weird periods are not from hormone fluctuation from rapid weight loss as about the same time the periods messed up my weight loss slowed down drastically. is it possible that i will have to go back on some type of meds for the pcos to fix this? i cant take bc due to my family history.

Topic: Ovarian Cysts post WLS
I'm 5 months post-op (RNY) and have lost 99lbs. I started having really bad pelvic pain a few weeks ago. Got in to see my dr. and got an ultrasound and they found 2 ovarian cysts - 1 on each side, about 3cm each. I used to get painful cysts but the last ones were about 4 years ago - before my periods stopped due to PCOS. Now my OBGYN is telling me that he doesn't want to do surgery to remove them because my gastric bypass was so recent. Has anyone heard of this?? I just want these cysts gone - especially since they are septated and also likely hemorrhagic. Should I be pushing for surgery or is it precautionary to wait and if so, how long should I wait?

Appreciate any advice!
-Andrea

Topic: RE: ughhh this is gross but i have to ask!
I was diagnosed in 2003 with PCOS and was having the same problems with my periods...sometimes months apart and sometimes years apart.  If you aren't worried about birth control currently ask your gynecologist about regulating you with provera.  My gyn has me take provera from the 20th to the 30th of each month and my period starts like clockworks on the 1st or 2nd depending on if there are 31 days to the previous month or not.  I have not had the softball sized clots in close to 5 months!  Obviously being overweight or super obese as we both are, that is alot of our problem and it will clear up once we have surgery.  Also alot of the fertility issues are known to clear up after surgery.  Make sure your gyn knows that you are planning on having surgery so she can either put you on the pill or on the provera with you using a secondary birth control option as most surgeons do not want you getting pregnant until at least 18 months after your wls.  Good Luck.

Topic: RE: PCOS in our daughters
My 16 yhr old daughter was diagnosed with PCOS on Wed. The Endocrinologist started her on time released Metformin. She is also doing 24 hour urine collection this weekend to check her cortisol level as he is checking her to see if she has Cushings Disease. 2 years ago she went from 130lbs to 208lbs within 9 months and we finally found a doctor that thought that was not normal. I'm relieved to know now that it's a treatable condition and not just that she is taking after my side of the family in the obesity gene pool.

Topic: RE: NEED YOUR HELP "SKIN TAGS"
Hi,
If I go to my doctor and just want skin tags removed for cosmetic reasons, then it's $150 for the first 30 removed and then a fee per tag thereafter.  If I go to my doctor and say these skin tags are catching on my clothing and ripping etc... thereby being a possible conduit for infection, then I get the tags removed for free (other than my $10 co-pay).
