Yeah, I've had the Mirena Coil put in about 2 months ago. I still struggle with abnormal bleeding and cramps but I also have Polycystic Ovary Syndrom and I'm insulin resistant. My doctoc has had to replace it once from slipping out and had to do many ultrasounds...eek. If it worked properly with my body it would be the best form of bc...but...it isn't for me. Hope it works out for ya!
Topic: RE: WLS/Hysterectomy
I am a fellow PCO er with IR, I had a hysterectomy last july, but kept my ovaries due to my age.
If you can have an ablation, that is a good start. I am off my Glucophage (metformin) since day 3 post op RNY . Are your insulin levels still high with the weight loss?
I hope you find the answers, the hysterectomy is so difficult to do unless really necessary, would insurance do a total for only mild dysplagia??

I've certainly had a hard ride with the coil. I had it put in over a month ago and still get abdo cramps and now an increase in facial hair and spotting. The problem is that I never properly menstruate but I'm getting a 2.5 week cycle so...weight gain, weight loss, fluid gain, fluid loss and the skitters. I'm not sure I like the coil for these very reasons to be honest. There are therapies such as spirolactone and vaniqa cream to help the symptoms of PCOS but the bloating....think we may be stuck with it!!!

Has anyone had the Mirena Coil inserted? I had mine done about 3 weeks ago because i suffer from unbearably heavy periods. I was just speaking to a friend of mine who had hers done and who put on lots of weight with it, she said that shes going to the doc this week to take it out. In the last 2 weeks i havent lost any weight but this morning when i woke up my scale was up 3lbs!! I can understand the odd pound but 3lbs!
Has anyone gone or going through this??

Topic: RE: IUD before kids?
Yeah I had asked some questions on O.H. about getting the IUD and seems like if I am remembering correctly alot of women said thier Dr wont even go there if you have not had children. Guess our Doc's are the few that will? If you are going to be out of it, then you have no worries!!!!!
Topic: RE: IUD before kids?
The situation is odd, I'm having to have a D&C done because of heavy bleeding and other PCOS issues and my Gyno explained to me that he'll go ahead and put the Merena IUD in while he's doing the D&C so it's not so complicated and painful for me. Maybe since I'll be knocked out it'll be easier.
It just happens that this is all happening before I have WLS! I was just curious because on all the ads for the IUD they say you should have had at least one kid already. My Dr knows I don't have kids and didn't mention anything about it.
Thanks for your reply!
both hubby and I are forgetful and I don't want to change getting pregnant to soon after surgery!

Topic: RE: IUD before kids?
Hey! I went to get an IUD inserted because I was worried that even though I have PCOS that the surgery would dramatically increase my fertility and didn't want to get pregnant too early on. I have no children and was told it was going to be really uncomfertable/ painful etc. Well it was uncomfortable, alot of cramping, but I wouldn't say it was unbearable! She had the ultrasound tec lady come in to make sure it was inserted in the right area, and it was not, and they could not get it in because it was causing me pain, felt like she was shoving it in there trying to get it past something that wasn't going to budge. Anywho, I had/have a calcification in my cervix and it was just pushing it further in. So I left uncomfertable WITHOUT the IUD. I balled. Anyway, so I tried the Nuva Ring. I quite liked it, but only used the samples that were given to me. Then just stuck with condoms. But anyway, hope that helped you out some! Good luck! Julia

Has anyone had an IUD placed before having any kids? I'm having to have one put in because of PCOS related bleeding problems and I'm curious because I haven't had kids yet.

Topic: RE: Birth Control After RNY
I decided to use the patch and it has worked just fine, but it is quite expensive even with insurance.

Your surgeon is right about the pills not being absorbed enough to be fully protecting you from pregnancy. If you have children then I suggest an IUD, otherwise I'd go for the NuvaRing since it's absorbed through the mucousal tissues and not your digestive tract. The IUD isn't recommended for women who've not had children yet due to the size of the uterus. Women who've had children had a bit larger uterus than those women who've not had kids yet. Good luck!
