Topic: RE: Help! Pregnancy after RNY
Thanks for sharing!  I am so excited to be starting this journey.  I know that the route I have chosen was the best option for us.  GB will get me healthy so that if we do become pregnant we won't have alot of issues with the pregnancy!

Thanks again!

Topic: Has anyone gotten pregnant before the 1 year of post op is up?
I am almost 9 months post op and have lost 125 lbs... I have like 75-80 lbs to lose.  I am already 40 years old, wll be 41 in December.  I used to have PCOS before surgery and never got pregnant before.  (Not that we were really trying)   All my lab tests are perfect now, before they were good..as I never even when I was at my highest weight never had an issue with diabetes or high blood pressure.  I know they suggest not getting pregnant before the year is up but lately I have been feeling like I really want to just not worry about it and it if happens, it happens.

I was with the Nuvaring for like 5 months but I really didn't care about it. Now my doctor put me on the pill (my choice) but haven't started it yet since it was between periods..

Have any of you gotten pregnant before the year is up? I would like to read some stories...Please.

Thank you! :-)

Aloha!

My DH and I were trying for just about as long as you.  I had RNY in July 2003...and we waited, as was instructed.  I had a LOT of "female" issues which led to having GB surgery.  Up until that point, my OB wanted to do a complete hysterectomy due to all my issues - I refused!

Either way...we finally were blessed with our DD on September 1, 2008!  I didn't have too many complications during pregnancy that were due to my GB surgery.  I did have to take more effort ot ensure that I was getting enough vitamins and nourishment than probably the average pregnant woman.  But other than that...I was great!  I didn't gain much weight either....and I actually lost the baby weight quite quickly - although, now that I am a SAHM, and no****ching my diet and exercise, I am putting back on the weight!

Best wishes to you....and keep us updated!!!

What I meant was that I was told the lap band would not work for me.  I have a very bad case of PCOS.  I have to have surgery at least once a year to remove cysts because they get so big (baseball size).  That in addition to my weight was the reason my doctors stated the lab band would not work.

I'm pre-op (hoping for fall surgery) but would ALSO love to know the answer to your question.  I'm hoping that they are less painful and, well,  just plain less alltogether.

I think that it is not so much that the band does not work for PCOS'ers.  The way that my doctor explained it to me was that RNY changes the way you digest food so you are getting the benefit of restriction and malabsorption.  While the band is giving you the benefit of restriction only because nothing is bypassed.

My endocrinologist and obgyn initially reccomended lap band.  After talking to my surgeon we chose RNY.  PCOS, my weight, insulin resistance, etc. have been such a vicious cycle for me that I want to put an end to the cycle permanently.

Not to say that the band is unsuccessful for PCOS'ers.  There are many success stories you can read here.  I think that everyone (PCOS or not) is different.  I think the most important key to success with whatever surgery you have is following your doctor's instructions to the letter.

Good luck!

I was told by my doctors that the lab band will not really help with PCOS.  I suggest you do a lot of research to see which surgery will work best for you.  I wanted the lab band at first, but after listening to my doctors and doing research I chose the RNY.

Hi. I am a 26yo PCOSer with all the "normal" pcos symptoms. I have spoken with my PCM about WLS and she agrees that it may be the best option for me. The problem is, I have no idea what "works best" for PCOSers. I have tricare and here at Wilford Hall Medical Center they cover RNY, Lap-band, and Sleeve. Is one better than the others for us PCOSers? Does it matter? Oh, and I am also 5'7", 245lbs.

Sorry I sound so lost. I am still new to this whole WLS world!

Thanks!

Topic: Painful Period!
Okay. So I really should be happy that I am having a period this month. I haven't had one since April and before that last October! The only thing I am wishing would go away is the pain. This PCOS sucks and I wish I could just have normal periods with the normal mild cramping that most women get. I have lost 36 pounds now pre-op and I look forward to my RNY surgery in September. I do want my periods to keep up every month because eventually my Hubby and I want to try and concieve. I just hate having to feel so awful.  I have a question for the ladies with PCOS that are post op. How are your periods now? Are they more frequent or regular every month or do you still suffer from amenorrhea? Are they still painful or less painful?
