It depends on what surgery you are having done. The things we deal with take longer to resolve with the band where as with the RNY or DS things happen faster.

201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!

And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!

Topic: RE: Birth Control
Hi.  I have PCOS and have had it for a while.  I am 10 months post op and my gynecologist recommended either an IUD (which I opposed because I want to conceive in the next 5 years) or NuvaRing.  Most people have LOTS of breakthrough bleeding with the IUD and even have to get it removed (it takes MONTHS for it to work properly, so you sort of have to ride out the storm for a while)  That being said - I LOVE MY NUVARING!! At first, I was a little bit apprehensive at the thought of 'inserting' something and taking it out every month.  But its just like a tampon..you don't know its there.  Additionally, there are several benefits to it because the estrogen dose you get through the ring is more evenly regulated so your body accepts it better.  I had no break through bleeding or spotting and just after one month of using it, I now have normal periods and have for the past 6 months.  My symptoms are much better, no really bad cramping and my period only lasts about 4-5 days.  Hope this helps! If you need more info, just PM me.

Topic: RE: Band or RNY?
I researched all options.  I chose the Lapband and had it in March 2009.  I had POCS and it is hereditary for me.  Once i had the surgery and weight loss it caused me to have female issues even after surgery.  Losing weight puts stress on your body and it did a job on the female side.  It has been regulated now with birthcontrol Woohoo...  It is typical for things to take time.

Don't assume you can't lose weight with the band.  I'm out 4 1/2 months and down 84lbs.  So its really up to you.  I just didn't want to be discombobled in the inside.

Whatever your decision is gl!!! :)

7.8 cc in a 10 cc band, Started at 378 lbs

Will the facial hair stop growing after surgery? I hate the daily morning man routine. :(

Wow I am glad to hear that she was able to get some relief and help for her PCOS. I also have it and I was given Metformin. I was on it for years and I didnt know there was other medication treatments out there for it. As a matter of fact they had adjusted my dosage after 5 years of it and I finally got pregnant.

Thanks again for the info I will talk to my Dr about other meds.

That's great news! I've had/have high testosterone levels and I'm scared to stop the pill. I hope after I have surgery my body will function normally. Good luck on your blood work!

Topic: RE: NEED YOUR HELP "SKIN TAGS"
First time posting after lurking a while...

I have had PCOS since before it was even a diagnosis.  I have had irregular periods, heavy periods, cysts, PMDD, darkening around the neck and underarms, insulin resistance, skin tags, infertility, you name it, since I was 10 (I'm now 41)!  I'm the poster child for this horrible affliction!

Since taking control of my life (through diet and exercise--my doc won't consider WLS for me), I have felt better, but the skin tags are unsightly!  I was quoted by a dermatologist a price of $50 per tag if they take them off.  Uh, NO WAY can I afford that!  I'm a teacher in Florida--we are paid in sunshine, not real money! LOL

I am in the process of covering them with waterproof band-aids to rid myself of them, and it seems to be working for me.  I had a large one under one of my breasts, but I tied it off and it's now gone.  I cannot bring myself to cutting them off.

Tags don't hurt anything but your self-esteem.  They are just unsightly little reminders that you have a serious hormonal imbalance.

Good luck to you!
