Topic: PCOS in our daughters
This is a general statement for anybody who has overweight daughters, especially those who seem to be putting on extra weight during puberty. If you notice that their menstrual cycles are extremely erratic, have more than the usual mood swings, seem to exhibit secondary male charasterics like deeper voice, depression (I know...its a teenager..lol) facial (or unusal pattern) hair growth, excess tummy fat, darker skin at creases and folds of neck and underarms (with exessive skin tags), yet are active but not staying in a weight range for their activity (possibly developing signs of diabetes) ....have them checked for PCOS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, a hormonal deficiency. I was plagued with it from age 20 (I am now age 53) and my youngest of 3 daughters (all conceived thru fertility medication) was just assessed with it. I have known since she was 14 that she had it, but her pediatricion brushed it off as an inactive teenager. My daughter worked out for 3 years, 3-5 days a week and her weight never changed! She had all the above mentoned signs of PCOS. She is now 18 and has recently seen an Endochronoligst. She is now under treatment with low-dose estrogens and an androgen inhibitor. She feels and looks much better in just the 1+ week she has been under treatment. She follows a good ADA eating plan and works out even more! Definately check with an Endochronoligist.

Topic: Wondering if...
Hello all,
I had my RNY 2/06 and went from bout 280 to 175 to now 220. I been trying to get preggers for the last year and a half to no avail. Starting to think I may have PCOS. Read some things and before my RNY I was high cholesterol, diabetic, used to cut off my own skin tags, did not have regular periods. One time they gave me Provera to start my period, after I did not have one for 4 months. It gave me hives, ick, but that was pre-RNY.
So... I am wondering now if I might have PCOS. I don't have many of the previous conditions and don't have to take diabetic meds anymore as I can control my sugar levels with careful eating practices.
I have been contemplating having a revision since after all this time I never did get to my goal weight of 150. I don't wanna be Twiggy, but thought I was outta the "x" clothes and I'm creaping back there, and it's getting harder to move (I have arthritis).
I have a wonderful son, and if he's the only natural child I can have, its fine, but I sure would like another one and looking into adoption seems like a long hard road. If I could just get me fixed up we should be able to have another kid... Seems I got preggers so fast the last time. LOL I guess it can't always be easy, huh?
Anyway, your thoughts would be appreciated,
Gosh

CONGRATS!!
This gives me great hope. My husband and I have been trying for almost 5 years with no luck and I'm hoping that by continuing to lose weight, I will somehow get pregnant.

Topic: RE: When You Say Your PCOS Symptoms "Went Away" After WLS....
I am five months out and my period came back a month after surgery and has been on time every month ever since! This was after almost 10 years of having a period that would last a month, go away for a day, come back for two weeks, go away for a week, etc. Losing weight definitely regulates the periods by correcting insulin levels and was the only thing my PCP told me would correct it. I had cysts pretty bad - had a 10 cm cyst removed from my left ovary December 2008.
I never had any skin tags, but I did have dark skin patches between my breasts and on the sides of my neck - and they are completely gone!!

Topic: RE: Hair?
I am 5 months post-op and have noticed a decrease in facial hair. It isn't completely gone but it's definitely not as thick as it used to be.

how many times did you have to have the laser surgery so it would stop coming back?
and where did you have the hair that had to be removed?

Topic: RE: Birth Control
I am still pre-op but i just discussed this with the doc, and she recommended the shot, or the right , and after some weight loss i can do the patch.
If you could i would try an IUD, i tried it and it didn'y work out for me but it is good for up to 5 -10 years depending on what kind you get.

I have been diagnosed with PCOS for awhile. I was able to conceive two times since my diagnoses ( i have 2 daughters 3 years old and a 6month old.) Now I really want to get WLS before the year is out . I need advice on what Birth control method is the best for someone with PCOS and that has WLS. I want to get the DS some I really don't want to take the pill but if it's effective I will.
I don't want to get my tubes tie just yet we would like o possibly have another baby in 3-4 years
What birth control is the best for people who has had WLS ?
