Topic: RE: HELP Byetta and Switching Birth Control after 8 years of the same brand.
 Hello,

I have been on Yasmin and not Yaz since being diagnosed with PCOS (about 9 years)- I took take Byetta and both work well for me.

I really like Yaz and feels that it works the best for me in controlling some of the mood symptoms that PCOS can cause.

I hope that helps.

Topic: RE: WLS/Hysterectomy
I had my surgery in Jan and since then it just seems like my symptoms have come out to the light more. I won't say they got worse because I've always had them just never really focused on it as much as now. I don't have any regrets having the surgery because I know my hormones are crazy right now and its gonna take some time for them to get in control again. I am currently taking metformin but mine is 500mg 2x per day. My IR is still the same, my PCP just changed my bp meds to spiro and my GYN just changed my BC to Yaz. So I'm trying different things but nothing seems to be helping. But I really appreciate your help.  At this point after everything I've been dealing with and going through I just really feel hysterectomy is the way to go. I'm just worried since I've had such a slow weightloss due to the IR and all my other issues. I'm worried that the hysterectomy will slow it down even more. But at this point where I'm at its like I'm torn in the middle because I'm happy with my body but would like to continue to lose weight. But then I really don't want to deal with the issues that I've been dealing with anymore and feel like I'm at the point where I don't care if I lose anymore weight as long as I have the hysterectomy even if it makes it harder to lose weight. Well I'll just have to wait and see what God has planned for me.

My surgery was a year and a half ago, and my PCOS symptoms are resolved. I'm not sure if it was just the weight loss, or the DS, since it is supposed to help with metabolic disorder, but I'll take whatever it is.

Dark and scaly places are normal again, and the tags have reabsorbed.

Topic: RE: Band or RNY?
Hmm, the requirements are the same for the different WLS's, which is over a 40 bmi, or over 35 with co-morbidities, so if the surgeon actually tried to pull that, it wouldn't be hard to appeal, but on a quick check, I can't find your surgeon on a list of actual DS docs. Based on his nonsense about the 600# thing and that, I wouldn't trust his info on DS (or sleeve either, since he likely doesn't do them). It's such a big life decision, I wouldn't take one surgeons word about surgeries they don't perform - I'd find one actually qualified to do them all. Many of us found out the hard way that misinformation abounds from surgeons that are trying to discourage you from a surgery they can't perform.

As far as the PCOS, I've had resolution of it, and the symptoms that came with it. I read the DS helped with metabolic issues, but didn't expect the PCOS to be resolved. It was just the cherry on the sundae for me.

Topic: RE: Band or RNY?
If you have lingering pain/swelling at surgery sites it should be no different be it Lapband or RNY (or VSG) as they are all done laproscopically and have roughly the same amount of small incisions through the abdominal muscles.  As far as the gradual weight regain, I'm betting it's because people get comfortable with their tool and forget how to use it.  Granted I'm battling a 20lb gain, but I recently had my 2nd post op baby and will be 5 years post op next month.  I know that my body has adapted to my 'new' internal routing and I must work harder now at weight loss than before...but my tool does still work.  Just recently I buckled down and got back to basics to find that I'd lost 3lbs in 1 week.  My tool is that...a tool...and it still works.

My 'ah-ha' moment was actually a bit of prayer.  I'm not the most religeous person, however, when it comes down to it I do believe in God and His power.  I used to get a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach when I'd think of "should I...shouldn't I" have WLS.  So I prayed about it...and asked Him that if the RNY was the way to go, and that He would look after me and that I would be safe, to please take that bad feeling out of the pit of my stomach.  I went to bed and the next morning that feeling was gone.  That was my "ah-ha" moment and went forward with it.  I'm quite pleased with my results.  And even though I'm having a tough time getting the baby weight off I have myself to blame.  I've not been eating correctly and have been 'lazy'.  And although I have 20lbs to loose...I'm still 95lbs down from my 'old' self.

I'm pre-op, and still trying to decide which wls to have, however, I felt that I might be able to contribute my own experience here.

I had an endnometrial ablation for heavy dysfunctional uterine bleeding a few years ago -   It was the best thing I ever did for myself, and I'm glad I was spared having to go the next step and having a hysterectomy.

I think you should see a endocrinologist before making the decision to take out the girl parts and talk to the doctor  about Metformin - it can really change your hormone levels and improve your  PCOS symptoms.  I take 850 mg 3x per day.

Good Luck.

I posted this on the lightweight board and figuered I'd post it here for those who don't go to that board. Which everyone probably does but either way I will post my venting session again. Anyway, for those who don't know anything of what's been going on with me. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago. I had RNY back in Jan and have been struggling with a lot of health issues since then. I have the facial & back hair, I have acne, irregular periods, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, diabetes, mild dysplasyia, etc, etc, etc. You name it I have it, it seems like. Anyways I had been pushing my GYN for a hysterectomy and always said no even after the mild dysplaysia. Well I've been blessed and have discussed my issues with my PCP and she has agreed to refer me to a GYN that would preform the procedure. I just feel this is my best option even If I have to take hormones after wards. I will just add it to my daily vitamin regimen anyways. I don't know if any of you have had WLS and then a hysterectomy but I 've heard that it will complicate the weightloss? I hear so many different stories that I don't know what to believe. I am confident that I am making the right choice with the hysterectomy no doubt about that. I am just a little concerned since I am only 7 months shy of my WLS that it would affect me reaching my goal. I am very happy where am I am but would feel very accomplished if I could actually reach that goal and see myself there for a while. I haven't seen myself thin in a very, very long time. I would love to see that Liz once again even if its for a short while. So any of you had a hysterectomy after WLS and if so how did it affect your weight loss and body after wards?

I had RNY in Jan. I had symptoms before but never really knew what it could be from. My OBGYN never really paid attention to anything and he's been my OBGYN for about 12 yrs already. But he's more high risk pregnancy so I really never seen him, I saw his NP and MW's more.  Had first abnormal pap back in Aug 08 and had LEEP done first week of Jan. Then had RNY and then all of the symptoms got worse and have been getting worse. My PCP says its because of the rapid weight loss and your body needs to adjust. But also agrees its due to PCOS. I am pushing for a hysterectomy due to my mild dysplasyia and hoping to have it done before the years end.  I hear DS is really good for quick fix on a lot of health issues. I did hear about it before I had RNY and had actually considered it but was a little worried on how drastic it is. I was a *****icken. Don't know why if with the RNY you still have your insides rearranged. I would actually reconsider if I could now. Specially because of the rapid weight loss and better success stories on DS. But in the end the decision is yours and yours only.
