Topic: RE: HELP Byetta and Switching Birth Control after 8 years of the same brand.
I just stopped the Byetta after being on it for over a year.  My endocrinologist felt that at this point, I wasn't getting any benefit from it.  It did help me lose approx 25# though initially...should be interesting to see if they return.  I refused to increase my dosage because my BS would crash on the 10 mcg.

Topic: RE: Hysterectomy after WLS
I had my surgery in Jan and have been having issues with weight coming off. I've had several stalls and stay there for weeks at a time. I had the RNY so I really don't understand why i am having issues losing. I am IR and my PCP has me metformin 1000mg. I am also having issues with irregular periods and was diagnosed with dysplasia and have been getting paps done every 3 months. Had Leep procedure done in Jan also. I have been very persistent with my OBGYN about the hysterectomy but he does not want to do the procedure. I am having a lot of female issues and he just doesn't understand.  I am scheduled for an ultra sound next week to see if there are any cysts in my uterus or anywhere else. That was actually scheduled through my PCP so I think if I keep having issues I will just discuss the matter with her and have her refer me to someone who will preform the procedure. I'm just curious if the whole hystero thing will further complicate my weight loss? Since alot women experience that after a hystero. Atleast that is what they say.....

Topic: RE: Help! Pregnancy after RNY
There are many women who become fertile after WLS.  I've had my period like clockwork since my surgery.  I'm on the nuvaring and i love it.  I also want to get pregnant, but it isn't safe for the fetus while your body is in ketosis.  So, it's pretty important to protect against that for the first 18 months.  The nuvaring doesn't go through your system (intestines) so our malabsorb procedures don't interfere with the hormones. I'm very sensitive to hormones and the pill.  I have not experienced any side effects while being on the nuvaring.  I know quite a few people who have had horrible side effects with depo, so I choose to stay far away from that one.  For my husband and I, condoms would not be a safe bet, but I hope that works for you.
Good luck,
Trish

Having PCOS helped me in getting my approval for surgery since added weight in general can trigger PCOS symptoms and make them worse.  My insurance approved me fast and they said that my surgery had the best long term statistics for reversing the symptoms of PCOS.  Sending good vibes your way that you won't have any insurance problems.

I also looked in all the WLS once I was diagnosed with PCOS.  Being insulin resistant is the pits!  Anyway, in all my research I realized that I wanted to be able to start a family with my husband and I wanted the best outcome for my health long term.  The best advice I can give, is research, research and then research some more about all of the WLS options.  The one that is right for you will speak to you!  Since my surgery, my oily skin and acne have cleared.  My period is back like clockwork and the skin tags are decreasing.  For the first time in a long time, I feel the sense of hope that my health is on the right track! I hope to be a mom someday.
Good luck in your quest!
Trish

At least you'll be armed with facts! That's more than a lot of people get. In the long run, I wanted to not have to revisit weightgain. I wanted to be able to live and eat as normally as possible and I wanted to just be free and be able to hold onto a pregnancy and raise my children without the insane excess weight that I've carried from so many failed pregnancies. Be well and just know that DS is an option that is at your fingertips!

Thank you all for your experiences.  I think I have more options to consider than I originally thought.  I am just scared to make such a lofe altering decision.

Anyone that could share their story would be great!

My husband and I have been trying for a baby for 8 years and have not been able to.  I had RNY on 7/6/09 and my doctor assured me that we would be able to start trying in 12 to 18 months and that I would get pregnant.  Has anyone had success with this?  We want a family more than anything.  Also, my OB/GYN wanted me to get the depo shot while I was in the first year and I decided that wasn't right for me.  After talking to my regular doctor he told me he didn't want me on any king of hormones, he want's my body to have time to regulate itself, so he said the only birth control he wants me to use are condoms.  If anyone has a success story to share I would love to hear it.

Thanks!
I've finally started my new journey!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, anyone who is interested in getting healthy should pursue Flax Seed. You can purchase it in health food stores, or even in Walmart. I would suggest ground up Flax Seed, so that you can just put it in your smoothies and things of that sort. The benefits of Flax Seed are tremendous!

This in effect helps relieve constipation and other irritable bowel syndrome. Flax seed may also lower blood glucose and improve insulin tolerance (diabetes). Whole flaxseed (powder and ground meal) may also reduce serum total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

Studies show a diet high in ALA omega-3s helps reduce heart disease and stroke by reducing the build-up of fats in the arteries, reducing cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and reducing inflammation which is known to promote atherosclerosis or "hardening of the arteries." Studies have found eating two to six tablespoons of milled flax daily for as little as four weeks decreased the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Besides acting as antioxidants, lignans are phytoestrogrens — active substances derived from plants that have an estrogen-like effect. Phytoestrogrens can help balance hormone levels and block tumor formation, offering protection against hormone-sensitive cancers, such as breast, endometrium, and prostate.

Lignans also help treat menopause without traditional drugs by mimicking naturally produced estrogen, reducing or moderating pre- and post-menopausal symptoms

Fiber in flax is good for the heart, colon, and digestive health, and can ease the effects of type 2 diabetes.

The fiber in flax helps trap glucose and fat in the gut, moderating and easing glucose release in the body and reducing sugar spikes, which has a positive impact on both blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
The insoluble dietary fiber in flax can
not only help relieve constipation, but improve overall colon and digestive health. Diets high in fiber have been proven to protect against cancers of the GI tract, and the American Cancer Society (ACS) lists high-fiber diets as one way to reduce your risk of colon cancer, the No. 2 cancer killer in the U.S.
The soluble dietary fiber in flax can help lower blood cholesterol, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
