Topic: RE: HELP Byetta and Switching Birth Control after 8 years of the same brand.
Hi, I was recently on byetta and it was great for about two months then I started getting huge red itchy bumps at the injection site. So jus****ch for that. I kept thinking it would go away, low and behold it got alot worse. ( I was allergic to it. ) So I had to go back on the metformin which doesn't do a thing. I have often wondered if I got back on the pill if it would help. Since that is when I started to gain weight . I quit taking them because I didn't need to due to a partial hysterectomy. I don't know anything about the Zovia. I hope the byetta works for you. I almost cried when I had to stop taking it.

I personally cannot afford the expensive ways of taking care of it. If you drink two cups of Spearment tea each day, however, it slows the growth rate down tremendously. I can tell already and haven't even been drinking it for a week yet.
It makes things a lot easier. At least until you can deal with it another way.

Topic: HELP Byetta and Switching Birth Control after 8 years of the same brand.
I have recently graduated college and have new health insurance. I can no longer afford Orthotricyclin lo which is the birth control I have been taking for 8 years. My doctor told me that Ortho is the best BC for PCOS but I'm being changed to Zovia 1/35 because it's cheaper. I'm affaid something is going to go crazy with my body when i change BC. I've been on it since i was 16! I've been on an extremely low carb diet for a month now and i was recently put on the Byetta 5 Pen. It seems to be working because i have lost 12 lbs. This is great considering I'm a failed Lapband paitent due to my PCOS and IR.
Any thoughts about changing BC and using Byetta?

Topic: RE: Lap Band/PCOS/Pregnancy
I am 2 years post op with LapBand. I have barely lost any weight yet I exercise 3 times a week with a personal trainer and can't eat much because of the band. Still no weight loss. My doctor has told me with in the last year studies have shown that LapBand does nothing to help PCOS patients because the problem isn't the amout of food you eat it is the way your body is reacting to the food. I wish i would have known this before i paid out of pocket for this surgery. All it has caused me is aggrivation from not being able to eat certian foods, vomiting, uncomfortableness, etc... My nutrionist recently told me the only way i will loose weight with the band if i eat no more an 12 grams of carbs a day which is pretty much impossible but I'm trying as hard as i can. I wish i would have got RNY. Good Luck and congrats on your baby!
Topic: I feel great and I'm doing everything the natural way! :)
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site, but I just had to come on here and post what I've been doing lately! I'm 19 and due to a huge fear of doctors, have had PCOS for about eight years, but just got it checked out about two years ago... not good. Anyhow, like everyone else here, I'm dealing with the weight, the bad skin, the hair, every little flaw that keeps us feeling like a prisoner at moments.
My doctor wasn't much help originally. She told me she didn't want me going on birth control and she wanted me to try things naturally first. My mother was irritated and determined to find a new doctor. However, I'm from Virginia and I go to school in Boston, so the time it would take to get me to a new one is just rather hard to do. So, I went on a search for a natural way of helping things and am feeling great today. So, I thought I would share with you what I'm doing!
First and foremost, it's all about the diet. We all know this, but we also know that doesn't change the fact that it is so hard to do anything about it. Ehh, I'm about 235 pounds and because I come from a VERY Southern family, clearly that isn't changing with them in the house, ha.
Something told me to get on youtube one day and research what I could do. I told myself I'd never become a Vegetarian -- I love my meat too much. However, after searching I realized I didn't have to in order to be healthy.

Since watching her videos, I got inspiration to do something. I went out to the store and bought tons of fruits and veggies. I got hooked and realized that there is something that could be done.. something I've always been told could help, but that I actually felt inspired to do this time.
Also lately I've been doing the following:
Drinking 1 glass of Soy Milk each day. (Soymilk is controversial because it has an Estrogen based substance in it)
Drinking 2 glasses of Spearment Tea each day. (This is amazing. I've been doing it for three days and can tell a difference in the hair growth on my face)
Taking "Black Cohosh Root" pills each day. This is a natural pill that you can find at your local health store/Vitamin shop/etc.
All three have something in them that lower testosterone and mock Estrogen -- thus reducing hair and helping to regulate things.
--------
I've only been doing the Spearment tea for a little while as well as the Soy Milk. However, with integrating the fruits and veggies... I feel bad when I pick up something bad to eat. It's all in the mindset. There are tons of healthy receipes, tons of neat organic and natural things that do awesome little tricks. It's wonderful.
The biggest change I've made though... is that I don't consider this a diet. When we do diets we tell ourselves we HAVE to lose the weight.. we HAVE to do this, we HAVE to do that. We often put ourselves in the position where we feel like we fail if we do something wrong and it just seems to be harder to do.
When I've gone into this, I watch Natasha's videos and I watch other videos and I see how excited these people are to eat what they eat and to live the lifestyle they live. It isn't about losing the weight anymore -- it's just about getting healthy so that I can live many years.
Especially Natasha. She's like a motivational speaker for me; I get excited about the things I'm eating now because I know that it has changed someone else's life and even though I've only been doing that for a little over a week.. I've lost 7 pounds and have so much more energy than I've ever had before in my life!
I'm excited for this and I wanted to share it with you guys. I'm hoping that someone who is still searching for a way to help take control will find be able to find comfort in these simple things like I did. :)

Topic: RE: I think I might have PCOS.
Unfortunately there is no real cure for PCOS. But losing weight does help with symptoms. I had my surgery on the 16th of June, and already the dark areas under my arms have gotten smaller.
I've seen other women here on OH say that the only symptom they still have problems with after losing weight, is the facial hair.
I have my fingers crossed.

I think I will talk to my doctor about it. Thank you for your response. Does it go away if you lose enough weight or is it a condition that stays?

PCOS doesn't mean that you will have trouble getting pregnant. I wish doctors would learn that. (I had 3 of them tell me I'd never have kids......I have 2)
As PCOS is a syndrome, you don't have to have all the symptoms/problems to have it. I have cysts, skin tags, IR, darkened skin, and irregular periods, but didn't have any trouble getting pregnant. In fact I was pregnant both times within 3 months of going off BC.
But yes, you should get tested. That way your doctors can better treat the symptoms you do have.
They'll test your blood for sugar levels, thyroid levels, and hormone levels. Some doctors will also order an ultrasound to check for cysts. IF a doctor rules it out only because 1 or 2 things comes back normal, get a second opinion, as that dr has no clue about PCOS.
