When your period is late due to PCOS or you skip a few months, the lining in the uterus gets thicker and thicker. Now that your body has started to regulate itself, it has ALOT of lining to get rid of, which is good because the thicker the lining gets, the more prone we are to getting all sorts of nasty things from it (cancer for one).
It probably will not happen every time, it will probably eventually work itself out. If your body decides that you're going to have heavy and painful periods (which happens sometimes with WLS patients) you can always invest in some sort of birth control like an iud. From what I've seen, they do help to regulate and lesson the period.
It's actually been shown that a 10% loss in body weight will regulate your period and make the majority of PCOS symptoms disappear. Since you had lap-band over a year ago and have most likely dropped more than 10% of your original 'starting' body weight, the symptoms you DID have, have disappeared completely. When I was on atkins and dropped a large amount of weight, mine disappeared also and I became regular, unfortunately, they returned when I was no longer on atkins.
It's normal, you probably were not misdiagnosed. You've just made the steps to improve your health, so it's corrected itself.

Good thing I was at home when it started, as it started hard and fast. I truely thought I was bleeding to death. Because by day three - I had to locate the thickest overnight pads made and I was wearing two of them at at time and soaking them within an hour.
Went to my OB, and she said if the meds she gave me does not slow it down by the next day, she was going to admit me to the hospital. Luckily, the meds worked - I am wondering if this is normal, has this happened to anyone else. Dr. says because I hadn't had a period in so long, the lining was thick and there was a lot to shed.
I am afraid this will happen everytime.
Before my Lap Band in March 2008 I was diagnosed with PCOS when my hubby and I were trying to get preggers. I was always skeptical of the diagnosis because the only symptoms I had was a big gut and elevated testosterone levels. I even remember running around telling everyone, "seeeeee I always knew I was a guy!!" lol now that I am 16 months post op I have began seeing a fertility specialist again and I just had my PCOS pannel done again. EVERYTHING was normal. No one ever found a cyst on my ovaries so I don;t know what to think. was I misdiagnosed??? Has anyone else experienced this? I'd love your feedback!
Thanks,
Rachel
