Topic: RE: Pregnancy After WLS?
One of my close friends had the RYN 5 years ago, after having two children before her surgery, and multiple miscarriages. After her surgery, she has had three more children and all of her PCOS Symptoms have subsided. Usually the wieght is a big factor in not having stable periods and therefor lack of ovulation, but once you loose weight, at a certain point you will regain normallancy.
With me personally I have not had WLS....yet, I am in my "very serious research stage" I too would like to have more children. I have PCOS and it sucks, my wieght fluctuates so much. I can look at food and gain 20 lbs. I am tired of the hot flashes, the mood swings, depression, the excess hair growth...... I am ready to live a life of happiness again! I have 1 beautiful 6 year old son, who was concieved so easly, then after 3 years of trying, found out the I had PCOS, I have gained 100 lbs. since his birth, just by the fluctuations of weight due to the PCOS, I have TRIED so many diets too. I seem to only gain more. I know that this may be my last hope is to have WLS. We have adopted 2 children in the mean time, but would still love to have another one of our own.
Good luck to you.

Topic: I think I might have PCOS.
When I was pregnant with my daughter about 4 years ago, I remember looking on my chart and it said possible PCOS but I had no idea what that meant. My periods have always been normal, but I have the darkening of the skin on my neck, underarms, and groin, I also get frequent boils, and have a few skin tags. I was unable to breastfeed my daughter, my supply just never really came in. I guess I'm wondering what happens if you have PCOS and should I get tested or does it really matter for me? I would like to have another child someday and I'm now concerned that if I have PCOS that it may be really hard for me.
Topic: RE: Opinions about WLS &PCOS
You're about like me. I'm also 5'3 and my top weight was 254. I was diabetic, hypertensive, sleep apnea, infertile and no matter what I did I could not loose weight & keep it off. The most I ever lost was 2 years of weigh****chers and I regained everything back. Even with prescription diet pills I'd only lost 30lbs over the course of a year.
I had the RNY and love it. I lost 114lbs by 1 year post op and it 'fixed' all my PCOS issues with the exception of the hair growth on my chin. I found that I went from zero periods to regular 31-32ish day cycles. At 16 months post op we didn't use protection and immediately got pregnant with my older daughter and then early last year we did the same again and once again immediately got pregnant with my 2nd daughter. My endocrinologist is the one who treated me for my diabetes, IR, & PCOS...she's also the one *****commended surgery to me. Oh...and the Metformin didn't help me either. It never helped me loose weight or ovulate and after being on it for 4 years I became diabetic.
Anyway good luck in whatever you choose!

Topic: RE: HELP! PCOS with insulin resistance. over 1 year most op with minumal weight loss
When I was researching... my PCP and my surgeon both told me that the band wouldn't do much of anything for PCOS unless I really changed lifestyles.. that it wasnt taking away or fixing any of the hormone issues...
so I don't know what to tell you :(
Just keep everything no carb... if you're insulin resistant.. eating carbs will make you crave more carbs.. so make sure that when you're eating and getting full.. it's all proteins..

Topic: HELP! PCOS with insulin resistance. over 1 year most op with minumal weight loss
I have PCOS with insulin resistance. I am almost 2 years post op and have only lost about 40 lbs. I have recently started a low carb diet and lost 8 more lbs. I am on 2,000 mg of Metformin a day and birth control. How many grams of carbs should i be taking in a day maxium. I need to make sure I'm doing this correctly and not eating too much. Any suggestions? I really want this lap band to work. I work out 3 times a week and I have almost 7 ccs of fluid in an 8 cc band! I don't understand why I can't loose weight.
Topic: RE: Hair?
I have increased hair since my surgery but I think it is probably coincidental with the fact that I just turned 50. I have noticed other hormonal changes as well and so I really don't think it has increased due to the surgery.

Don't worry so much about the scale moving especially whe your losing inches. Just go with the flow. I know its so frustrating though. Get rid of the scale I know I had to. You get so sucked into it if you have one around. Things will get better you'll see.....

Might depend on a per person basis. I had a little bit of facial hair prior to my surgery and now after Its increased significantly. I have side burns and hair on places that I've never had before. So it might be that my condition has just worse. I have read some people say their condition has improved so like I said it probably just depends on your body and hormones.

I have a question about facial hair. For those of you that have it does it decrease after your surgery? I know lots of other symptoms get better after surgery I was wondering if this is one of them.
