Topic: RE: 2 Questions - PCOS & Tubal - PCOS & Breastfeeding?
I know I'm late for a response but we were out of town until yesterday so if any one looks back...
The tubal problems I have heard about were more painful and longer periods with cramping in between periods too.  This I had heard from friends but had wondered if it was just an excuse to not have the tubal and have their DH's get the snip instead.  But, on the PG board on here I started seeing things about it again and did some research on the internet.  It is thought to be like Chronic Fatigue; people believe they have something wrong but a lot of docs think it is psychosomatic.
As for BF, there again, some women claim that their docs have told them not to BF after WLS and PCOS.  I have not researched this on my own yet.  Also, some docs have told their patients that low milk quality was a direct result of one or both of these things.  Again, only heresay from others on this site.
Just looking for info.
Thank you for your reponses.

Topic: RE: Post hysterectomy w/PCOS
I had my WLS towards the end of Jan and prior to that had some female issues. I had mild dysplasia and did the leep procedure also in Jan but it was the beginning of the month. Anyways I noticed that after my surgery I was starting to get a lot of facial hair and also the brown patches on my face. I blogged all my symptoms on this board and someone suggested that I could possibly have PCOS. I brought it to my OBGYN attention and he just prescribed birth control and said that should possibly help me with the excess testosterone. Anyways I just had my 3 month post op with my WLS and told him about it he said that with the actual weightloss that I am having those symptoms should clear up.
I am currently on metformin prescribed by my PCP which I was told would regulate my insulin resistance brought by the PCOS which caused my stall that I was in for about 2 months. I have been taking metformin for about a month and have lost another 12 pounds. So the metformin has helped with my insulin resistance. Which causes stalls for people with PCOS. As for my symptoms I still have the facial hair and the blotchy skin. But I only have one little spot on my face no additional blotches so thats a good sign. As for the facial hair and excess hair everywhere else. I think what is causing mine right now is the fact that I am taking biotin which helps with hair growth. Since my surgery I have been losing a lot of hair and someone suggested using  biotin for regrowth. The only problem is you don't get to pick and choose where it goes. But I do think that with time and weight loss the issues of PCOS do go away. One question in regards to your TAH if you don't mind.
I have actually suggested to my OBGYN about having one since I have been having alot of female issues (PCOS, mild dysplasia,) now being so young and having this done do you notice a change in your body, yourself. I am 31 and don't want to keep going through these issues and have it turn into cancer. Since my mother was diagnosed and also had a TAH a few years ago. But people think I am crazy for even suggesting it to my doctor because of the issues I will have afterwards with hormones and other stuff. I would just like to get some input from someone who's my age and could give me details to whether or not its the right thing for me. I would appreciate any information you could give.

Liz

Topic: RE: Recently diagnosed with PCOS and need advice
I've had PCOS since I was a teenager and I am fortunate enough to have avoided the acne.  I have dealt with the body hair (though I have two conditions with that as a main symptom so I was bound to deal with that one) but it's not that bad.  Once I decided to start shaving, it's never bothered me that much except for my husband's teasing when he sees me shaving like a man, lol.  The worst I've dealt with is the weight gain, the pain and the infertility but I know some women who have never dealt with a single symptom except for a lack of a period.  So I really think it's individualized.  At least that's been my experience.
If nature had intended our skeletons to be visible, it would have put them on the outside of our bodies.

Everyone's symptoms are different. You can google it though and see if you match anything on the list. There's no cure, but you can treat the symptoms. So far it doesn't affect weight loss surgery...but WLS affects IT! usually symptoms go into remission or go away all together, if you keep the weight off.
Best of luck to you!

Topic: Post hysterectomy w/PCOS
Hey all.  I have not had WLS yet, but am looking into my options.  Im from Ontario Canada, and would more then likely be going the RNY route.  My BMI is 39.5.

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on February 10th this year...lost my cervix, uterus and one fallopian tube.  Still have my ovaries.  BTW, I am married and am 30 years old.  I was diagnosed with PCOS years ago.  I have been on and off metformin, am not on it currently.  I have much excess hair growth (espeically on the face), brown patches on the skin.

I would like to get the WLS done, Im wondering if there is anyone out there that can give me input on if it will help clear up any PCOS symptoms.  Bear in mind I dont get my period anymore since my TAH in Feb.  Any info would be appreciated..

Topic: Birth Control pills again
Hey all, I was just wanting to see if this is common.  I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3 years ago.  Just had Gastric Bypass in April, so I am a little over a month out.  Even though I have been told that I cannot get pregnant - the Dr. who did the history and physical portion of my pre-op advised that I really should be pro-active about preventing pregnancy after having WLS.  He stated that a lot of people have been told they cannot get pregnant, lose weight and then bam - literally pregnant.
I talked to my surgeon at my first post-op appointment and she advised me to speak to my PCP and yes I should get on birth control.

I just turned 39 years ago --have been with my husband for over 13years and NEVER got pregnant.  I have always wanted to be a mother.  I am fine with adoption.  To be perfectly HONEST, I'm not sure I'd want to get pregnant now after having the surgery for fear of gaining the weight and not being able to get it back off.  I totally understand not getting pregnant now due to my stomach only being able to hold 2 ounces.  That is enough to sustain me but not enough to give nourishment to a baby.
I know I'm rambling but I just wanted to see if this is common and are my feeling normal?  Thanks!!!!

Topic: RE: PCOS and abscesses/boils
I get them inside and outside. I had no idea what they were until I had some medical records sent to my weight loss surgeon. On the notes my OBGYN had marked something about "boils" in the notes. I told my weight loss doc I get them inside and out several times a years and always thought they were zits, lol.  Come to find out they are boils from my PCOS!! Ugh...now as for treatment, no one seems to be able to help me in that department. This thread is really helpful!

I had my doctor take some of years ago, he just snipped them off, didn't freeze them. I couldn't belive that is all he had to do. I've had a couple more since then I snipped off myself. I always use sterile scissors. It hurt for a nanno second. I didn't mind a sting for saving in my wallet, lol. Now if you have them somewhere near your eyes or something like that...go to the doc!! Or you could try to string method:0)

I don't have experience with Nuvaring but I've heard surgery triggers your period anyway and to be prepared for that when you go to the hospital.
