Topic: PCOS and abscesses/boils
I was on here reading posts a while back and someone had posted that they found a skin disease/disorder that was related to PCOS. It is not the usual hair and cystic acne issues it was something else and I am desperately trying to remember the name of the disease. Basically, it is when you get infected abscesses or boils in areas such as your groin, buttocks, arpit regions that are tender and sore, very red, etc. Not acne or pimples but actual boils or what not. The postee said they read somewhere that this skin disease was linked to the PCOS and I am looking for the name of that disease. Can anyone help?
I had surgery on 5/15/09. On that day, my new chance at life began.

Topic: RE: Which WLS is best for women with PCOS ?
I had the RNY 5 weeks ago. I have been having symptoms of PCOS for 15 years now. After losing 42 lbs I got my period on my own without even using birth control. I think that's the surgery that will work the best.

The following month after my surgery I started to have regular periods. I lost 34 pounds the first month.

Hi I hope this helps. I had my RNY on 02/02/2009. I have had PCOS for nearly three years before my surgery. The week after my surgery they took me off my Metformin. I got my period in March and April for a normal 5 days and it has been wonderful. I do not know what you need to loose, but I needed to loose 120, that is why I chose the RNY.

Hi Tina....your story sounds all to familiar to me. I am taking clomid right now and have been for the last three months; with no luck.  Last month, the dr told me that my "follicles" were measuring 10,11 & 12 and that in order to ovulate, they needed to be 20+.  Frustration is consuming me because I too lost over 100+ pounds and the ultimate resason I decided to have the surgery was to be healthy so that I could be a mom someday.  Thank you for sharing your story; it renews my hopes to ovulate soon!!  Take Care.  Tavia

A Reproductive Endocrinoligist is your best bet. That is who I have been seeing since being diagnosed by my OB/GYN.
Yes, me, too.  After 2 years of going undiagnosed and misdiagnosed by primary care physicians and at least 2 gynecologists, a reproductive endrocrinolgist diagnosed me during the first appointment. This was back in 1995. God bless you, Dr. Zinaman!  You're the best.

Topic: RE: Lap Band and PCOS Question
I have PCOS and had my band surgery on 3/12/09.  My surgeon said he felt perfectly comfortable using the band on someone with PCOS and he has had great success with his patients that have PCOS.  I have lost 19 lbs. since the start of my preop diet (5 preop, 14 since surgery).

Good Luck!

Includes 10 lb pre-op loss.

Good luck with your surgery. I too have had PCOS pretty much since I first got my period. I am not even a month out since my surgery so I have yet to know if there will be any changes to my period or not. We shall see.
