Topic: RE: New Meds..........PCOS Sucks!
I was diagnosed with PCOS 2.5 years ago when my GYN sent me to a reproductive endocrinologist to r/o infertility.      What I was told is when you are trying to get pregnant (and don't have diabetes- i was pre-diabetic) they place you on metformin to treatment the PCOS insulin resistance.  It worked well taking care of the ovulation, however after a few treatments, I didn't get pregnant and had to stop the treatments (issues related to cost).
I remember the  Metformin being HORRIBLE.   I literally had to miss work several days due to the non stop diarhea.    When I spoke to the MD they said the only way to prevent this was to stop eating white bread, pasta, refined carbs. and I have to say this did help a bit.
Once I stopped seeking fertilicty treatment, the treatment for PCOS was YAZ birth control pill and Sprinolact.  I was only on this for a few months, though, so didn't have a great improvement with Acne or facial hair growth or anything.
I can't wait until I have surgery and see the resulting improvements- not just with my fertility, but with the ongoing Acne, etc.......

Topic: RE: I've always had problems but this is ridiculous
Hi,

I too had PCOS (maybe I still do I dunno), but I do know that after my surgery I was on my cycle for 8 weeks.  No one knew what to do for me.  My surgeon sent to my OB my OB sent me to my surgeon. I was in a maddening circle, and didn't know which way to turn.  I knew i was  not absorbing the birth control pills I was given because they would  stop me for a day or two then right back to the same old routine. Finally my surgeon suggested a depo shot. I got it and even though he said he didn't think it would stop it a few days later it slowed till it stopped.  Unfortunately it wasn't until my hemoglobin dropped to 8.  I had to go on iron 3 times a day to try and get it up, but now I seem to be getting  better and I haven't had a period to speak of since then, its been about 2 1/2 months.  So maybe check with your Dr on the depo shot if you haven't tried it already maybe it will help :)

Your not alone it seems to be a problem for a few of us lucky ones!

Topic: RE: Clear Blue Fertility Monitor?
I used one to help conceive my last 2 children… I think it helped learned I was ovulating on day 22 instead of day 14…. I also read the book taking charge of your fertility and I think it helped. I am a very need to know person so I loved the clear blue monitor….

I've developed PCOS and the test results don't add up but I'm terribly sick with this cycle issue.

Hello friends,

I am almost 9 months out from RNY, I've dropped almost 100 lbs, unfortunately the biggest side effects I've had from this surgery include...

cronic constipation
difficent in Potassium and vitamin D
massive amounts of hair falling out for over 5 months...
uncontrollable cycle

My PCP has tried 2 different types of birth control pills, and a 10 day supply of progesterone to try and stop my cycle, Unfortunately I've started again after this last "current" go around.  I'm about to lose my job because of this illness... I went for an ultrasound the tech "diagnosed me with PCOS"  I went for additional blood work my levels are normal.  Now I'm headed to a specalist and can't get in for 2 weeks, this sucks...

Any insite on this problem?

A Reproductive Endocrinoligist is your best bet. That is who I have been seeing since being diagnosed by my OB/GYN.

Topic: RE: Birth Control after WLS?
Right...the pill is a no no due to absorption issues.  I mean...you can take it but the chances you'll still get pregnant is VERY high.  I'd go with the NuvaRing as the OrthoEvra patch sucks...I know...I was on it for about 10 months before we ttc'ed after surgery.  Once you do have a baby though I suggest the Mirena IUD...I love love loved mine and will be getting another one here VERY shortly.

I've been on SC for years...long before I even found OH.  Anyway have you checked out the WLS forum?  SC also has a group that I head up on the D&E Buddies forum called WLS Divas...if you have more than 25 posts on SC you can join it if you like...
