Topic: RE: question about PCOS and Gastro Bypass
I had the RNY gastric bypass 4.5 years ago and have done well. I also have PCOS and all of my symptoms except for the facial hair went away. Unfortunately once the hair grows in the only way to remove it is laser or something like that. Anyway the weight loss reversed my IR, diabetes, infertility, skin tags, acanthosis nigricans (AN...the dark patches of skin)...all of it.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Topic: question about PCOS and Gastro Bypass
I would like to know if anyone has or knows someone who has had a Gastro Bypass while having PCOS and what affect it had on them?Did the PCOS go away because of the weightloss?
Topic: RE: Who treats you for PCOS?
Your best bet because I read this in a book that had a few sections about PCOS is to find a doctor who either A. knows alot about PCOS or B. one who specializes in it. So just ask.
Topic: RE: PCOS symptoms reversed after WLS?
I'm about 3 months out from my DS and I am VERY pleased with how much it has helped my PCOS symptoms.
1) My period is regular these days without any help from birth control pills. (I stopped taking them two weeks before surgery and never went back.)
2) My unwanted hair is A LOT better. I can go a day or two without "taking care" of it, which is awesome.
3) My dark patches of skin have REALLY lightened up. They're not completely gone yet but almost.
I'm so happy about this!

Topic: RE: Lap Band and PCOS Question
I too have a very severe form of PCOS and all the horrible symptoms that come with it. Im 33 and have had PCOS since I was 16....diabetes, high blood pressure, hirsuitism, infertility, etc! The band has been a miracle for me! I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone...espeically people with PCOS. I had my band put in July 24, 2008 and I have lost 76 pounds so far. I feel great. Ive got another 50 pounds to goal. I have beat the high blood pressure. The diabetes, Im type 1, so I will have it for life, but the surgery has helped with my irregular cycles and pain. I don't know about the infertility yet, but Im hoping:) Please, if you have any other questions I would be happy to share. Or, you can check out my profile! Good luck on your journey!

Topic: Accutane Post Op? (X Post)
I have had cycstic acne all over for most of my life. I have PCOS. I figured that after surgery my problems would improve but I'm pretty sure they've worsened. I've been on everything under the sun and nothing's helped. My dermatologist has spoken with me about going on accutane. They put me on the med I'm on now as a last resort. And it's not done much at all. :(
I am in the research stages looking into Accutane. I know the risks, possible side effects, etc so please don't tell me the horror stories. I know they're out there, just like there are with WLS.
What I want to know is has anyone been on accutane or know anyone who's gone on it POST OP. Or has anyone heard whether or not it's safe or not for WLS patients. I've searched everyone and the only people on OH that I could find that have been on it, took it pre op.
Any help, even if you just remember hearing something about it vaguely, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Pregnancy after WLS
Hello!
I have pcos and I was trying to get pregnant. I had wls in May of 07. I was on metformin (to try to get pregnant) and it did not seem to work. I found a herbal pill online called OVULEX I was pregnant within a month and we were trying for 6 months before. We were taking the male pill and the female pill. I also used the clear blue monitor. I tracked everyday we had sex and everyday I took the pills. They are pretty spendy but I think they work!
Hope that helps!

Topic: This board is really no support at all
Hello Ladies-
I just wanted to come and let you all know that I ran into a HUGE message board called SOULCYSTERS. They offer SO much more support than anything you get from here. You all should come and check it out. I really wish I would have found it sooner! www.soulcysters.net

Topic: RE: Lap Band and PCOS Question
Thanks so much for responding. This is one of the biggest questions for me because I feel like I'll be doing this for nothing if this procedure can't help the way my body apsorbs the food.
Topic: RE: It CAN Happen!
Thank you for your response. I am not on any of these drugs anymore but have been on Prometrium and Met in the past. Hopefully, all will go smoothly without them. I just started my 11th week today.
My understanding is the large cyst I had acts like ovarian drilling which is a good thing since no doctors up here will perform that anymore!
