Also know that PCOS is something insurance companies know WLS (no the band however) will reverse the PCOS in a matter of months & they will usually approve on the first submission for approval provided your not going to have the band.

I was diagnosed with PCOS six years ago after having my son. Doctors said I had to lose weight and I had RNY 21 months ago. Started getting regular periods again after the surgery but never showed O'ing on any OPK's EVER!
Happened to have an ultrasound for an urinary issue and they found a large blood-filled cyst on my left overy. OB-GYN said, "This is your lucky chance. You're more fertile now then you might ever be again." I guess these cysts help rupture the lining of the ovary, allowing eggs to be released that might not normally for a few months after the cyst. Well, that very month we got PG, after five years less a month of TTC!
NEVER thought it was gonna happen again! Miracles do occur and now I just hope that all goes well throughout the pregnancy since this might be our very last chance (+I'm almost 35 years old).
Just wanted to share our story in the hopes that it keeps other ladies hopes up too!
I decided to try fertility again and went to a new RE who did a quick ultrasound and said that the other doctors were wrong and I didn't have any cysts, therefore, I did not have PCOS.
A week later I was at the oncologists office for a check up and she did the ultrasound and guess what, the ring of cysts were there on both ovaries.
So I don't know what the deal was with that one RE, but I've seen 4 others and they all say that the ultrasound is just one way they can determine PCOS.
My advice would be if you feel you have PCOS, don't take no for an answer.

Well, I was just discharged home today after having the lap band yesterday...YAY! One of my goals is to have a baby in a few years. I was diagnosed with PCOS and the first thing my reproductive endocrinologist suggested 4 years ago was WEIGHT LOSS. Apparently, it is very common to get pregnant after WLS. My current OB/Gyn had a RNY a few years ago and she has been an angel. If you can find one of these gems, it's worth it! The literature suggests that a woman should wait between 18-24 months after WLS, however, my doctor told me if I get pregnant before then...thennnnn, we deal with the nutrition at that time. I have been told to use an alternative means of contraception...shoot, I haven't used anything with my hubby for five years. According to my doc, it's very likely that I get pregnant without the fertility methods...we'll see! The best thing I would say is...find an OB/GYN who is experienced with WLS patients. Your surgeon may know one.
In response to your post.. Like yourself, my lab results were negative. I even had a pelvic ultrasound that showed one cyst, but it was less than a 1/2 inch-nothing to be concerned for. I had a routine pap smear appt. with my Ob/Gyn and based on certin symptoms I was diagnosed with PCOS. The doctor told me it is very difficult to diagnosis. Look at the list below...do you have any of these symptoms?
The symptoms of PCOS include:
- Irregular or no menstrual periods
- Obesity, and
- Excess hair growth
Other signs and symptoms of PCOS include:
- acne,
- oily skin,
- skin discolorations,
- high cholesterol levels,
- abnormal hair growth and distribution.
Any of the above symptoms and signs may be absent in PCOS, with the exception of irregular or no menstrual periods. All women with PCOS will have irregular or no menstrual periods. Women who have PCOS do not regularly ovulate; that is, they do not release an egg every month. This is why they do not have regular periods.
