Topic: RE: PCOS who joined the bandwagon
I had the VSG for PCOS. Are you noticing any changes? I'm not.
Topic: RE: Has anyone had an ultrasound...
I was diagnosed with PCOS 4 years ago. Not because of an ultrasound, but because my periods were never regular from day 1. I have also had cysts on my ovaries for about 20 years. My endocrinologist state that the blood tests do not confirm it but the ultrasounds do. so I gues what the doctor is saying is that it is not the same for everyone and that one test can not confirm it, but the good news is that they have taken me off the metformin since my surgery and I never felt better.
Topic: RE: Awaiting Results
Happy Belated Birthday! Anyway I don't buy the 'you're still getting regulated' BS. At 20 you should be regulated. I was like you...never regular. I was a late starter and didn't have my first AF until I was a week shy of 15. Then I'd skip 3m, 6m...a year...finally went on the pill. I stayed on the pill until I was almost 20 and then went off in hopes of getting prego. Well instead of getting prego I stopped having periods all together and rapidly gained weight. This is when my PCOS really showed up. My DH & I went through 8years of failed fertility treatments before my WLS. We'd tried metformin to get me to ovulate...no luck. We did nothing and that resulted in nothing. We did Clomid and no luck there. We did injectables with IUI (interuterine insemination) still no luck. My body did not want to ovulate! Finally I had RNY WLS. After I stopped the patch birth control at 1 year post op I found that I was not only having regular unmedicated periods but...I was OVULATING! On my own even!! After 3 months of tracking my periods/ovulation on www.fertilityfriend.com we decided to ttc and was totally blown away when I got pregnant the 1st month trying. It was 9 years 4 months since we'd first started trying. I had a healthy pregnancy and baby. I then opted for an IUD and on 1/31 last year had it removed. My first natural cycle after having it removed we got pregnant again! I'm now the very proud mom of 2 girls who neither one would be here if I'd not had my WLS. I never gave up. I started TTCing a month before I turned 20 and delivered my first baby 3 weeks before I turned 30.
Having WLS when you have PCOS greatly increases your chances of conceiving. Good luck and if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer!

Topic: RE: New Meds..........PCOS Sucks!
Call your insurance carrier directly and ask them if they cover WLS and if so what kind & what you need to get approved.
I had the RNY and was off all meds by 6 months post op. I stopped my metformin 2000mg the day before surgery and have not needed it since and I'm 4.5 years post op. I was weaned off of my Labetalol but for some reason at 2y 3m post op my HTN came back and I'm back on it but at least now my pressures are good. I was on 100mg TID and pressures in the 160s/90s and now am on 100mg BID with pressures in the 110s/70s.
What are of nursing are you in? I'm trying to get into a local RN program as i want to ****** RN...but so far there are FAR more applicants than openings...so I'm still waiting.
Good luck getting approved!

I know what you are sayin about being in the bathroom a s*** load. I feel for ya. I just started back on Metformin 500mg twice a day to help with ovulation and all that junk. And I have been to the BR 4 times already. And it's like pure liquid. *sigh* I hope it gets better!

I still don't know if my insurance BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD HMO OF ILLINOIS. will pay for it yet. All i know is that i went to the doc the other day and they went up on all my darn meds.
so here is the run down.
Metformin 1000mg twice a day (2000 mg daily)
Topamax i don't remember the mg yet its twice a day
Propranolol er 60 mg twice a day (120 mg daily)
spironolactone 25mg twice a day (50 mg daily)
i know yall lookin like go****s a lot the topamax is for my migraines yea i have them bad as hell.
the propranolol is due to the fact that i have high blood pressure and well the other 2 you know what they are for.
On Top of it all i am a nurse and i work 3pm to 11pm so most of my time is where ? the bath room this really sucks i need to do something quick help fam.

Topic: Dark skin patches-my best treatment experience and cheap!
I know it has a name like negris something but you know what i mean, usually around the neck and in some other places too
The only thing before weight loss i found that helped mine was putting
Queene helenes mint julep mud mask on it lettign it dry completely and i did this once a week it draws out whatevver and did seem to help lighten (though not remove it) if this helps anyone it will be worth it i think it worked for me but i had to do it regularly or it came back dark again
i got mine a walmart or walgreenes its soemtimes hard to find but if you do find it, its usually cheap like 3 bucks a tube and one tube will lask weeks if your only using it on yoru neck but it works great for a facial mask (duh thats its purpose lol) too
good luck

Topic: RE: PCOS...Are you sure??
I'm not sure of the test that was given. I know that when I was 1st diagnosed (june 2008), I had an elevated testosterone level. But when they checked my testosterone level jan 2009, it was in the normal range. I've never had an ultrasound and I got a Insulin C-Peptide test that was in the normal range...I just don't know.
Topic: RE: which WLS is best for PCOS?
I have PCOS and I went with the RNY. We had to do fertility treatments for 2yrs to have our son and I didnt get a period on my own for 5yrs! After surgery, I got my period again right away and I accidentally got pregnant only a couple months out of surgery...I still cant believe that I accidentally got pregnant! All of my pcos symptoms are gone! I am afraid that they will return someday though.
Topic: RE: Question about Pregnancy after WLS
Well, I have no experience with the age issue since I am only 24 but I do have experience with PCOS and ttc. We tried for two years of fertility treatments to have our son. He is such a blessing. I had WLS in August and we were planning to start ttc sometime in the next couple of years. Well, I found out in early November that I got pregnant in October. So, I am pregnant with a surprise baby after have to ttc for so long to have our son. All of my pcos symptoms are gone. This surgery did amazing things for me!
