Topic: RE: PCOS & Tri-Care Insurance Approval
I am trying to have my surgery done at a MTF and I would like to know the cost associated with this procedure??? I am in Atlanta and I have tried the process with a civilian doctor, however, TriCare did not approve- so, I am taking the MTF route- just wanted to know how expensive this can get; also, I spent money on a psych eval,  and nutrition eval- is all of this necessary with the MTF process??

Please respond asap.

Topic: RE: which WLS is best for PCOS?
I had RNY on Nov 4th, 2008 and am currently down 69lbs. I do have PCOS, high cholesterol and HBP but had regular periods with luteal phase defect. (Most cycles were around 35 days but the post ovulation phast we 10 days or less) My hormone levels post ovulation were extremely low. Mr. Dr. was amazed that I was ovulating at all, but clearly my eggs were of poor quality. Miscarried once before I was diagnosed.  I was able to carry to full term a healthy boy in June of 2007 with the aid of some clomid, HCG and progesterone. Prior to RNY I was taking progesterone for PMS symptoms as well as metformin for the IR and Metoprolol for the HBP. I had my annual physical with my OBGYN in late January 2009 (just a few weeks ago) and without medication my BP was normal (130/80), my fasting glucose was 87, my lipid panel was perfect with the overall down 30 points to 198, and my  most recent cycle at that time was a "normal" 28 days with no ovulation pain or PMS symptoms. I had blood drawn to test hormone levels (progesterone & estrogen) again yesterday, we'll see how they are.

I won't begin to compare sugeries because I am admittidly not educated in them all. I opted for RNY based solely on the amount of weight I needed to lose and the procedures my insurance would cover. Just sharing my experience with you. I still have a considerable amount of weight to lose but even at this early stage the surgery has made a remarkable difference in my life and my health. Good luck!

Actually ,I refused to go on any birth control. We used condoms for awhile. The 29th ,I will be 10 months out.We aren't using anything at this point,I lost 100 lbs and am weighing 153.I saw a obgyn last week and he even prescribed me 6 months of clomid,so if i wasn't healthy enough he wouldn't have been willing to do it.He plans on monitoring me .I feel fine. And if my body is willing ,were hoping it happens for us.

Topic: RE: Has anyone had an ultrasound...
I didn't have any cysts either when they did my ultrasound, but blood tests do show I have PCOS.  Plus I have/had (take medicine now that's treating it) all the typical symptoms of hair loss on my head, extra hair on my face and arms, skin tags, etc. So I don't think they can rule out PCOS with just an ultrasound.

Topic: RE: which WLS is best for PCOS?
Hi! I have horrible PCOS.  I have a daughter conceived on clomid/hsg shot/progesterone & was having a hard time finding another dr to let me start clomid at my weight.  I was a 39 bmi, so i found it crazy.

Anyways, my dr said that he usually would say gastric bypass but with my bmi not being "that" high then if I was willing to put the work forward to get lapband it would be better.  Plus, I am a stay at home mom to a 2 year old & needed a surgery where I could care for her soon after.

I have lost 40 lbs in 2 months.  My weightloss is not as fast as RNY but thats okay with me because I am loosing & getting healthy & thats the point.  I have periods monthly already, which is crazy & unheard of.  I have not gotten my cholestrol checked so i dont know about that but I do know that I no longer take Metformin for my IR which is awesome.  I have had to change my mindframe when it comes to food & I exercise 3p-4 days a week.

The success rate 5 years out with RNY is 25% from the mouth of my doctor.  So, though the weight may shed off quickly it doesnt mean it will stay off.  You have issues with absorbing food/medication for life, and your recovery time is longer.  These played part in my decision but i strongly believe not one surgery is better than another.  If i had diabetes or would have been way heavier I would have had rny in a heartbeat.

Topic: Not sure
I am not sure what my doctor calls this, but I just found out. I have an excess layer in my uterus causing me to have abnormal bleeding and PAINFUL cramps. Anyhow I am on hormone therapy treatment I am hoping this works. Been on my cycle for about a month and a week, not fun! LOL! But just trying to get through it all with a smile as best as I can:)

I was just wondering if there are any other women that have the same thing I do.
