Topic: RE: I got my period!!!!
I'm almost 7 months out. I've had a period every month since surgery. I didn't start tracking them until last month (December) so I don't have the exact number of days in each cycle, but I definitely can see that I am getting more regular as compared with before surgery.

The first few months post-op, I was pretty crampy during menstruation. But I really noticed during my December period that the cramps were really only noticeably uncomfortable for the first day. The second day, I was still crampy, but less so. And on the third day, the discomfort was so minor as to not even be worth mentioning.

Flow-wise, it was heaviest the first day, medium the second day, and the third day pretty light. After the third day the flow really tapered off.

I had this same thing happen in January. So it seems like this is my bodies new pattern. I took one Tylenol w/codeine on the first day, and it seems to have helped (really would have liked an ibuprofen, but oh well...). Second day I was still a little uncomfortable but not as bad as the first day.

If this is my bodies pattern, I am grateful for it, because it wasn't too bad. I'm grateful that my body seems to be getting back to normal.

Hey!
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16 and I too have cysts and abnormal hair growth but I'm olive skin with very dark hair which I constantly pluck. I was on birth control since I was 14 so that I could have normal cycles. I got my period when I was 9. I was constantly nauseous for years until I started nuva ring. On nuva ring I do not have nausea but I do get cranky for about 3 days during the week before my period. So far, this is the best birth control for me. The only advise I can give you is... try it for one month. I don't even think I can get pregnant but I am not ready to try either.
Best of luck to you!

Another thing to do to stay on track, is to "journal" what your eating.  There are a few sites to check out I personally use www.fitday.com, there is also daily plate, and as I recall a few others.  You'll have to ask around if you want more suggestions.

It can be a bit tedious if you want to set up your own custom foods, (they have tons of food already calculated) but once you've done that it's really simple to keep track of your cals, protein, fat, and carbs.  You can also track your exercise, weight....there are allot of things to do on fitday, and the best thing is it's free!!!

My weight has stalled this past few weeks (maybe it's the holidays!) and I have been pretty lax about journeling, when I went back on a few days ago I was kinda shocked to see I was getting in around 1400-1500 cals a day.  My goal is no more than 1200 and I though I was doing pretty good.....until I saw it written down.  So now I'm back on fitday religiously.

Thank you Edie.  That is really good information.  And that is one of my biggest fears, that I will gain it back.  But hopefully the fear is what will keep me on track.

I shave every flippin day.  I agree on the myth thing.

Just lube up appropriately with a good cream or lotion and a good razor so you don't get bumps.  I use conditioner most of the time!

(this is a cross post from the RNY board)

I am a PCOS cyster.  I have been since I was probably 15 but i was officially diagnosed about 10 years ago.  Mine manifests itself in gut weight, male pattern hair on my chin, neck, chest.  Lucky form me i am very fair skinned so my body hair is blond.   I also have no-none, zilch, nada- ovulation.  I haven't had a period that wasn't drug induced  in about 10 years and before that the best I ever had was periods that were about 10 months apart.  Been trying to get preg for about 10 years too.  ( alot happened in 99, lol.)

So now that I have had surgery, I need to go on some sort of birth control so that don't get pregnant for 18 mos.  Just the sound of that is funny to me.  My past bouts with BC have been horrible.  I get weepy, and moody.  One time I bled for 45 days.  It's just not good.  I am wondering are their any BC's that you ladies have tried and had good luck with.  I was thinking about nuvaring.  not so sure about depo.....

thanks!

Topic: WLS and getting preggers.

Im waiting for the WLS....but had a question to all you PCOSers. How long did you wait to get preggers? I know the dr said 18 months to 2 years...and then laughed and said nobody lisen's. I was just wondering what the usual wait time was for eveyone. And if there was any complications.

thanks!!

Here is what I know - My son that is 17 yrs old LOVES my 22 mth old son!  My 22 mth old son LOVES him AND the 7 mth old son!  I can tell that my oldest feels left out sometimes when he wants to have me drive him and his friends somewhere - then realizes that I can't b/c I have 2 car seats in the vehicle and have to take the babies everywhere I go!  When he tries to sleep and one of them is sick, he hates to be woken up!  His main goal - aggravate them!  They love it, though!  It's attention!

I talked to my walmart checker the other day and she told me that when her one son was 16 yrs old, she had another child.  One is now 37 yrs old and the other 20 yrs old and they get along better now than back then!  There's hope!  My oldest seems more like....an uncle to the boys!  He helps watch the babies sometimes and will feed t hem, but draws the line at diaper changes!  He likes to plead ignorance!  He refuses to be shown how to do it!  haha  My husband is 46 years old and I'll be 36 in a few months.  I worry about our ages.  My oldest has a different dad and we have made arrangements for my brother-in-law to raise our babies if anything ever happened to us.  BUT - as time goes on and my oldest gains life experience, I may change custody to him.  I tell him to stay in touch with his brothers!  Family is very important.  Yes, I worry about everything!  haha

My husband isn't taking good care of himself with his choices in food and lack of exercise.  He is slowly gaining a lot of weight around his middle (around the heart).  I don't like to pick on him, b/c I had the RNY and it's not for him.  I just try to sneak healthier snacks into the house to replace the fattening ones.  I try to change the menu a little to be healthier.

Ok - enough about all of that stuff.  I was told after my RNY to wait 1.5 years to get pregnant.  I thought - yea right!  I'll never get pregnant - I did - twice!  NO protection!  I was stupid and thought I just wasn't going to get pregnant!  Well, I would say I was about 8 months post-surgery and I was down 100 pounds......WHAM!  I never believed my doctors blaming my weight for PCOS, exhaustion, back pain, infertility, runny nose (haha).  NOW I believe!  I feel 110% better than I did!  It's odd to suddenly feel my bones!  I'm not as padded as I used to  be!  Life is very different now.  Now, I'm almost 36 and my OB had a tough decision to make during my delivery.  HOW to cut me?  I had delivered Csection  before and now there is loose skin to inhibit the healing process of the next csection.  I was worried!  It turned out ok, but now I have parallel railroad tracks!  haha  I lucked out with the new baby - cut in the same place as the other one.  The skin was my only worry about the entire pregnancy.  It wasn't that bad though.  Gaining weight was tough for me.  Well, it isn't now and I'm trying to lose it again.  I'm just glad that God smiled down on us and enabled my husband to be a daddy and my oldest to be a brother!  It can be stressful - I'm raising an infant, toddler, teen, my husband AND my dad!
