I tied unflovered floss around mine and in about a week the dryed up and feel off, small amount of discomfort very small amount.  Told my doctor and he said it was a ok that I did it.  Good luck. If they are really small I just cut them off with a pair of sissors or toe clipers, no pain small amount of blood.

Topic: RE: HERBAL/VITAMINS FOR PCOS INSTEAD OF METFORMIN?
A vitamin/supplement called chromium acts like glucophage in that it helps insulin resistant cells become more sensitive for insulin. Google!! :P I can't remember everything right now but it's supposed to be quite helpful. For me at least, my PCOS is directly tied in with my insulin resistance.  :/  Good luck!

Topic: RE: Having WLS then gaining weight
Jan will be 8 years post-op roux-en-y for me.  I was 244 the day I had the surgery.  I got down to 118 and felt better than I ever had in my life.  I slowly began to put weight on until I was up to 162.  I went on a low-glycemic "diet" and got down to 126.  I got pregnant with my third (first post-op) and developed gestational diabetes, so was very careful to eat low GI during the pregnancy.  I was 162 when I delivered my healthy baby boy.  I soon reached 126 and stayed there for a year until I weaned him.  I instantly put on 10 pounds.  Then I had a hysterectomy 3 months later, and put on another 10 pounds.  Up, up, up went my weight, and down went my energy - and my motivation.  My baby will be 3 yrs old Christmas Eve, and I am currently 156.  I began to workout again today, and am praying that I can get back to at least 130, but nothing seems to be doing it for me.  I can easily put 10 pounds on in a week.  I'm very discouraged, but am trying to put some positive affirmations before me again . . . . and get back to not letting food control me.  But I SO enjoy eating.  So please know . . . . it is sometimes a daily struggle for me.  I don't want to go anywhere, my clothes do not fit, and my lack of motivation makes me discouraged.  However, I did it once, and can do it again - and so can you :)

Only after  has WLS did I learn about inosital.  It will probably take as long to work as finastride or cyprotoron which is 3 to 6 months.

I havent taken metformin in probley 5 years because it made me seriously ILL! my weightloss has slowed way down and I havnet lost any weight in a month now. I have also been a slow loser because of my insulin resistance/pcos so I have been researching herbs and vitamins to regulate our insulin and pcos.
Has anyone tried this and what successes or failures have you had??

Thanks :)

Topic: RE: Laser Hair removal for PCOS?
I had a lot of hair on my chin and had laser hair removal in 2007. I loved it. I was diagnosed with PCOS back in 1999. The hair got worse and worse. I went from waxing to shaving every day. First of all not all lasers are the same, there are lasers for fair skin, medium skin and dark skin. You have to go to a doctor who has the right laser for your skin type. I was treated every 4 weeks for 5 months. After three months, I stopped shaving every day -- moved to once every 2 days, after my fourth treatment i stopped shaving all together. I skipped one month and went back for another 5 month treatment. Within a year the hair, dark spots and skin tags were gone. I wish I did before and after pictures so I could share them....

If you live in the DC metro area there are several amazing doctors who perform laser hair removal. No, it is not cheap! It is very expensive and you should plan a year of treatment. It costs me $2000 but it was the best investment I had made to date. My lap band is my newest best investment! LOL!

I wax every six to eight weeks for any minor or stray hairs. If I feel too many hairs are coming in -- I will go get a laser treatment. That is about once per year as of now.

I love my results and swear by the laser -- it was a life saver for me and gave me my confidence back.

Topic: Does actos make weight loss harder?
I was talking about a drastic 8lb weight gain over the course of 3 - 5 days in the thread I'm liking below.

I have PCOS, was diagnosed after surgery, and was put on metformin. I lost a lot of weight, and even felt like the metformin sped it up. But i got diarrhea a lot, and i was dehydrated. I got to where i couldn't take it anymore and asked to switch to actos. Ever since the switch, I have stalled and gained.  I'm now going back on the metformin to see if it helps. Does anyone know anything about actos possibly makign it harder to lose weight?

Topic: PCOS Blog. :)
 Hi guys!

I'm a student and for one of my classes we were asked to complete a blog. Most people chose to use sports, music, or fashion as their topic of choice. I decided to choose the one thing that affects me most -- my PCOS.

For this, I wanted to share the link with everyone!

I plan on updating frequently with tips, fun facts, photos, recipes, etc. There are also options for people to suggest what they want to see, ask questions, and leave comments.

I want to prove to my professor that you do not have to talk about sports to get people interested in blogging.

I want this to be an interactive community. I love how things are here on this website and I think that it can transfer to other forms of websites.

So please check it out. It's a work in progress, but I cannot be more excited to start it up. :)

Thank you all!

Topic: RE: Ladies with PCOS post RYN
I also have severe PCOS and I'm 2 yrs out from RNY.  How surgery affects the symptoms of pcos varies from person to person.  I also think it varies from stage to stage in your life.  At first I had a great out come with the surgery.  My hair growth slowed so much that I went 6 months without having to wax then it came back gradually.  The other symptoms took longer to resurface.  My menstral cycle was regular without any meds til about 6 months ago.  Then nothing for 2 months.  I was given progesterone for 10 days and on the 12th day it finally worked.  After that I was given fertility drugs sense I am trying to conceive but that didn't work.  According to my doctor my insulin levels are okay but I really have to watch what I eat.  To much sugar or carbs and they shoot up.  My hormone levels are not so good.  Even with the fertility drugs conceiving will be hard.  Getting past the first 4 months will be even harder.  I will have to take hormones just to keep from having a miscarriage.  I wouldn't change anything I've done so far to lessen the affects PCOS has had on my life.  Surgery has at least given me a chance to have a somewhat normal life.  Everyday is a battle to keep the weight off and you will have ups and downs but it's start.  Doctors said it wouldn't be easy or a fast cure for anything.  I wish you all luck with the battle.
