I've done the vaniqua cream, electrolysis and laser removal.  By far the laser wins out for me.  I am fair skinned and dark-ish hair so it did good for me.  It wasn't permanent though. probably about a year.  I would say it lasted better than electrolysis (and didn't hurt).  The vaniqua cream didn't do anything for me.  I do also take 100mg of spirnolactone.  I think it does slow the hair growing, but it's all still there.  I'm also noticing that the coarse hairs are now changing to white.  I don't know what that is due to.  I'm 41, so it could be gray.  I dunno.

The Dr Scholls home freezing kit doesn't really work - at least it didn't for me.

Dermatologist usually has a flat rate for freezing / cauterization / snipping. If you call one's office they can usually quote you over the phone.

The WLS will not likely reduce the hair growth, what  it might reduce is the *activation* of hair follicules, making other kinds of hair removal like laser and electrolysis more effective.

I had DS and my PCOS symptoms are gone!  I really am a believer in malabsorptive surgery (DS or RNY) for PCOSers.

thats great to know. i have very fine hair as well. i will be taking my vitamins diligently.

my friend started taking biotin for her hair and nails just because she was thinning but she told me all the hair on her body grew back faster. that scares me! lol. because with pcos i already have a problem with facial hair. i don't want that to get worse.

I take Metformin too....  had no problems......

Most of hair loss has to do with lack of protein.....  you will lose some just because of the stress of the surgery.....Everyone is different though....   I had minimal hair loss and my hair is VERY fine....I took my vitamins and protein religiously before and after my surgery.  My hair loss was very minimal.

I have not tried laser hair removal; however, have tried vaniqa and personally it did nothing for me I got a $25 coupon from there website reducing the price to $50 but ill never buy it again! Tried lotions such as aveno hair minimizing lotion didnt notice much change, doctor gave me sprinolact I had high hopes and was again disappointed and stopped taking it after maybe 6 months and didnt notice it growing back any different after I stopped taking it..

I was hoping that having WLS it would at least reduce the hair growth, Im not sure if you all are pre or post op but are you saying that it didnt help at all? I really hope not that would be sooo disappointing to me, to be honest I feel like I am more insecure about my facial hair then I am my weight.. I am so embarrassed by it, and almost compulsive about removing it sitting in my car where I get the best light with a tweezers trying to remove all of them and that is inbetween waxes!! :(

I used to have to use facial hair lighteners for my facial hair and I would also pluck the hair from under my chin but my OB-Gyn perscribed Spironolactone 100 mg daily and it's since decreased the hair growth. I've went from lightening once a week to maybe every 6 or more months. I love it.

I had them too but I seen my family Doctor and she used Nitrate on them and within a few days they were gone.
Since i've started treatment for the PCOS I have noticed that I don't get any new growth just the few that I've had for a while and they are still small enough that I don't have to get them removed. You can also by the Compound W freeze for skin tags but I don't know if it really works or not I don't have any experience with it but if you have to pay to see your Doctor then maybe spending 30 bucks on the freeze might save you some money.

Good Luck,
Kee
