Topic: How long before...
How long does it take to return to a normal life...by normal i mean where you go out, eat out...(i realize you never go back to eating as before)..I mean a life where you think of other things than protein drinks and surgery.
Also, what about the hair loss thing? Everyone looks great on their pics so how bad can it be? How bad is it????
I have a family to feed...how does that work for you guys? You still make roasts and veggies and stuff or is the whole family gone of a diff diet?
Also...I like wine!!!!!! Anyone drinking wine again? (Dear god I hope for positive answers to that one)

When my Dr. gave me my referral way back when, it was with Dr. christou who is at the royal vic. Met with my Dr. there recently. Don't know if Dr. Christou is still doing surgeries. The Royal vic is closer to home for me.

Topic: How did you pick your doctor?
Hello board, I am in northern quebec and can go to Montreal or Gatineau for surgery. I am going private. (if i go through with it cuz im terrified but i digress).
My family doc gave me the name of Dr. Christou at Royal Vic...Any thoughts anyone?
I see lots of people getting surgery in Gatineau....
How does one decide on where and whom to get this done by?
Thanks in advance...

Ahhh the lovely waiting game. It's just brutal, isn't it? Vent away, we understand. I think there are a lot of pre-ops on this forum in the same boat. Despite big announcements that Quebec is going to do more surgeries, it seems to be going slower than ever. There's a great video that talks about Quebec's failing system for bariatric surgery. Check this link

Hopefully 2 years is really the wait time for you with Dr. Denis. I'm on the wait list with Dr. Atlas and his wait time now is 3 years! I've been on the list since Sept 2009, and I haven't heard a peep from them regarding pre-op testing, nutritional counselling, info session...nothing. I've speak with Martine every few months just to check in, but she just says that yes, I'm on the list, but the wait time is looong. Just no operating time for the surgeons, plus losing Rockland, and a huge waiting list. Ontario seems to be a bit better with 12-16 months wait time. Almost makes you consider moving provinces. I've heard that maritime provinces are worse off than Quebec...with 5 years plus of wait time. It's pretty crazy.
Keep us updated on your progress. Good luck,
Elena

The only surgeries at rockland are self-pay since they were exceeding their quotas when combined with the surgeries at sacre coeur. I hadnt heard about the suing thing....eep. I'm sorry to hear that you are not getting answers :( good luck! Hope it happens soon!!!

the Proteine you are looking for are for before or after your surgery! becaus the nurse at royal vic, told me after surgery its not good to take Optifast , because its a meal replacement, I had my by-pass on Feb 27th and now I bought mine at Wal mart you need to malke sure that the first ingredient on the label says its 100% Proteine de petit lait or 100% Isolate wheey
Hope this is helping you

I just went for my by-pass at Royal victoria on Feb 27th,2012, I do not know anything about the Rockland MD , but i'm sure everything will be ok , if not try to put your name in another waiting list like the one in Royal Victoria, they going very fast now. If not my friends got her sleeve with Dr Garceau at Sacre Coeur and she is very happy about that and apparentely the personnal at Sacre coeur were very nice so don't get discourage everything will be oK
