Looking for a beginners class in the area

I live in Baton Rouge, LA. I've been looking for a quilting class for 'DUMMYS'! My grandmother before she died use to quilt every grandchild (all 12) a quilt every year for Christmas. I never had any interest as a child but now I really want to learn how. I can't find a place in this area that has classes for beginners. There are many quilting groups that meet but they are not for beginners.

I'm sorry you don't live close by. I teach beginners. You may still want to go to a quilting group, don't be intimidated by their work though. You will persevere. Many groups or people in the group will "adopt" a beginner and help them learn. Start with a small project; pillow or throw or wall hanging. Yo-yo's are also a fun beginner project. It's totally handwork and you get used to the hand sewing and coordination involved. Good luck!

Here's a website for Louisiana shops for you. Hopefully one of them will be nearby. Most, but not all shops offer a beginning quilt class, also see if your schools recreation program offers such a class, or even a community/technical school near you. Good luck. http://www.clothworks-fabric.com/Quilt%20Shop%20Directory%20LA.htm
