Topic: hi, starting my first ever....
hi, I was talking to a friend recently and she told me about a quilt her grandmother made using old shirts of the hubby's to make a memory quilt. I thought what a great idea. So...Ive decided to make my first ever quilt, doing a patchwork one with the yarn at ever corner thing using...get this...some of my old cloths that I wore too much cause that is all that fit, you know ladies what I mean. Now that they are so huge on me (yeaaaa) Ive started cutting out the squares and hope to start sewing this weekend. (surgery was 11/26/03 and Im down 75lbs as of 3 days ago)

THANK YOU for such kind words! I have to confess though - inset seams - no way - not for me - that quilt top is all paper pieced - I forgot to add that detail in - dopey me! But still it was quite an accomplishment for me being that I have only been quilting for 2 years... now it looks like I will be teaching a class for that quilt as well - yikes! If you ever get out this way you must stop by the store - it is Quilter's Compass in Quincy - less than 15 minutes from Boston - I can make it in 7 minutes myself - hehehe I think I have about 15 projects I am working on right now, with ideas for about 50 more in my crowded little head! Hey Liz Oh my gosh - now you are a QUILTER! That quilt is beautiful and the colors are amazing. I am just learning to sew and fell in love with quilting but it will be many long years before I could even think about doing inset seams. You must have blood in your veins from the Lowell quilters of many years ago. Both my mother and older sister have been professional seamstresses at various times in their lives. As the youngest I got the jobs of tying seams off (back in the days when machines didn't have reverse!) and picking up the threads off the floor. Eventually I was promoted to "cutter outer". The result was that I didn't care if I ever used a sewing machine. But then at age 52 I got the bug for quilting from my very encouraging country cousin. (Which proves you can teach an OLD dog new tricks) I have completed 7 quilts, mostly Thimbleberries and have probably 10 more in various stages (including one Jinny Beyer which I will probably never finish). I have had a flannel one on my bed for over a year that still needs to have the binding put on. (When I had my WLS I told my kids that if I died I wanted to be buried with it over me unfinished! Do not let my sister fini****!) I also I have a room full of stash and and lots of expectations! But I can't ever imagine ever getting to your level. For that I will just have to go to shows! And as I am in Western MA I will look for your name on entry winners! Thanks for sharing and best wishes for your healthy future with WLS. Joanne 301/270 and on plateau/150

Hi Everyone, I'm a quilter (mostly applique) in Maryland. I even took a part time job on Sunday afternoons to support my "habit." The job is fun AND I get a 25% discount and six free classes a year. I'm currently working on the border to my queen-size Baltimore Album quilt. The border is going to go all the way to the floor, so it may take just as long to do the border as it did to do the top. Like most quilters, I have other projects in progress so I don't get bored working on just one thing. I like the idea of a round-robin challenge....as long as my block can be appliqued and not pieced.... lol Barbara

I was just looking at it today and asking myself how in the heck was I going to quilt it - by machine for sure - but where and in what spaces I have no clue yet... just was working on a 4-patch baby quilt earlier that whips up in no time at all... That is a beautiful quilt top!! Are you going to hand or maching quilt it? I have about 12 projects going right now too...the only things I have gotten finished in the past year (except for some wall hangings) is rag quilts!! I have made 6 in the past year...everybody wanted one of their own once they saw the one I made my husband. Beautiful work! Stephanie r-n-y 02/24/04

My name is Liz - I am pre-op waiting for my surgery date, and I work part time at the local quilt store - a great hobby to stay away from food I say! My sewing room is the farthest away from the kutchen it can be! Wanna see my latest project? (One of about 12 projects I have going right now)... http://www.simplypixelating.com/cgi-bin/album.pl?album=quilting Liz F., West Quincy, MA.

Hi everyone! My winter project will be a quilted wall hanging for our family reunion. The background is the sky, ground & white picket fence with a tree & leaves. I bought this pattern from Keepsake Quilting. This is a free catalog & has a lot of neat ideas & patterns. This kit was only $9, so it was "cheap" enough. The fun with this is when I take it to the reunion the leaves will be autographed by each person attending. It can be used at all kinds of occassions. Carolyn

If/when I ever move to TN, I'll have to look you up. We love the Crossville area and have friends in The Glade. I have been to the Highway 127 sale a couple of times. It's a hoot!!!! Quilting is my passion - Stash, I have a room!!!! I started a quilt group at church and donated a ton of stuff for us to start with. My WLS is Monday, November 24.
