Martha,
I'd suggest going to one of the larger quilt show. The vendors are usually there and you get to talk to them and try out their products. I forgot to see where you live. You can probably find out the closest show to you at the American Quilter's Society.

Good luck

Hey, Cindy!
I have you down and we are officially FULL!!!
Wooo-Hooo!
Everybody, start your sewing machines...
Topic: RE: Quilt block swap, anyone?
I would love to join. I have never done a swap but I love quilting. It also keeps me busy at night and relaxes me. It will be fun getting so many different blocks. I hope you have room.
Thanks,
Cindy

EVERYONE BE SURE TO PREWASH YOUR FABRICS.
I forgot to note this in the original post, but we want to be sure they are all the same. Prewashing will take care of the initial shrinkage and/or color bleeding.
We now have 11 members, only 1 spot left open so if anybody is lurking and about to join, nows the time.
Mailing deadline is April 30th.

HI, Robert!
Glad to have you join us!!!
You've got it right, 12 1/2" unfinished blocks in a pattern of your choice in country calicos on a tan background. Pick some pattern that "speaks" to you about your weight loss journey in some way b/c we will all be attaching a little note explaining why we chose that pattern.
Also, be sure to prewash the fabrics.
Welcome aboard--you make 11 so we only have 1 spot open
Woo-Hoo!!!

I have been lurking on OH ever since my wife and I had our surgery in August, and found the quilting board about a month ago. Saw that it was not very active, but read the IA and recipe boards daily. I have lost over 100 pounds and my wife has lost about 85. I have been quilting probably about 12-13 years and have a pretty good stash of fabric. Just got quilted from 10-12 years ago - 2 quilts for Christmas. One a scrap Triple Irish Chain (for my wife) and the other an Amish colored Fireside Cozy (for Santa). (Took this class at Country Threads, about 33 miles away. Also took all my 1 to 2 inch strips and scraps of plaids, homespuns and similar pieces and sewed together into 6 inch block to make a lap quilt for the car. But my wife said it was too good to be faded and used in the car. I have never been in a quilt block exchange, but have done a couple blocks for charity quilts. I would be interested in trying it, just let me know the particulars. (12.5 unfinished blocks with an off-white (tan) country colors fabrics.) Robert Kent

If I've left anyone out, please email me ASAP so I can add your name.
I've gotten several positive responses on the tan background and country calicos, so it's official.
Pick your favorite shade of tan for your background and any color in a country shade, 100% cotton calico fabrics (meaning small prints only, usually florals but not always.)
Oooh, I better get busy picking my block pattern! It's time to get started

Oooh--you are so lucky!!!
I was on the verge on having a quilting/craft room out of our unused office, but then I got pregnant--just as I'd begun decorating--and ended up having a little girl, so she got the room.
A fair trade off, I think!
As far as buying a long arm, can't help ya. I've toyed with the notion of going to rent time on one, but have never considered buying. Sorry.
