Hey Mitzi, I'm totally with you on loving any area. I first went into RN school at 18 and dropped out because of "not wanting to work with old people" I wanted peds or OB/GYN. I took several years off to mature, marry, raise young children, divorce ,work my butt off as a single parent of 3 wonderful children, mature some more...AND THEN went back to nursing school with a whole new perspective (while still working/raising 3 kids under 7.) As a graduate, I went straight into NICU. Loved it,was good at it, but wanted something else- one too many 24 weekers. Went to Peds Hem/Onc loved that too! Then was a sedation nurse administering moderate sedation for children and adults undergoing MRI. Eventually I made my way to working primarily with those wonderful over 65'ers. Boy have I learned alot! There is so much wisdom to gain from our elder's!

Hi Shellianne, Yep there are more of us....I live in Sun City, CA. (about 10 miles from Temecula) my employment branch office is in Orange, I rarely go there as I am also in managed care and spend a majority of my time in my home office on the phone or on the computer doing reports, looking up quidelines such as ACOEM and ODG, anyway...howdy neighbor

Hi Carolyn here. I have only been anurse for two years. Graduated 2002 at 39years old. Stayed home with the kids for years. Now I have a great job at Brigham and women's in Boston, MA in med/surg, learning new things each day. I am very interested in neuro, probably because my 12 year old was born 2 months premature and has learning deficits. She is doing great in school, works very hard in 7th grade now. One dream job would be to go with Oprah to a third world country and help the poor. What a blessing it would be to watch the get better. Also a sexy momma would be a plus. Carolyn

1. What is your specialty? In 1987 I went to work for the local community hospital as apretty green LVN. Did a little LTC, then moved to the acute side. Started working on my RN and got it in 1990. Have done Med-Surg, Peds, OB, ER, and Surgery, both as a staff RN and Supervisor..... not doing the supervisor thing again, thank you very much . I loved OB and Surgery, by the way. In February 2002 I started working on my BSN with National University, and had my degree conferred in January 2004. I flew to San Diego in May 2004 and participated in commencment ceremonies. I walked all over the Embarcadero, and I had a blast. I have my PHN Certificate also... In 1995 I changed channels, and went to work for The California Department of Corrections at a new prison here in Susanville. Today I am #1 in seniority, and am looking forward to retiring in a little over 10 years. 2) Other areas of interest or experience? Peds,OB, Med-Surg, Surgery, ER, Correctional Nursing..... 3) Years as a nurse, and how long it took to master skills in your area? 17 years as a nurse, and I am still mastering my skills. I feel that with the BSN deree, I look at things more analytically, if you know what I mean.... 4) Your dream job? When I retire from CDC, I want to work for Public Health.. kids, moms, preventative health, education..... Working for CDC is fine, great pay, benefits, and job security..... but I really get tired of seeing how much the state pays for these "Convicted Felons" and what they get... ... If they would put a fraction of this money into at risk communities, then there would be less inmates. Of course, I need them for my job, so it is pretty much a catch 22 situation.
