Survived Surgery ;-)

Heh. Most everything went well. My potassium was low, so they delayed my surgery by one day. Doc put in a central line so they could run some potassium into me fairly quickly. I don't recommend having this done while awake. I spent a day and a half on a vent after the surgery in ICU. They didn't have a room on the floor, so I stayed in ICU a few days. I passed my leak test and had the NG removed. Out came the JP drain, hospital food was tried and rejected. I was discharged on my 6th Post-Op day, Friday. We spent the night in the local motel, then drove from Omaha to Kansas City and spent the night. The next day we drove on home to St. Louis. I was feeling very good. Monday I did too much, so I've been paying for it pain-wise for several days. I'm wearing an abdominal binder to keep me in check. All in all, not a bad experience for me. There weren't any residents or interns, but there were student nurses everywhere. I didn't mind them practicing on me at all. I remember what it was like. Hubby is a bit worse for wear, though. Nah, he did very well and I'd have been lost without him. Jeanie in MO DS 02/12/05 12 Days Post Op

Glad you're doing well Jeanie. Did you know you were going to be on a vent? What was the need for it? One of those things I never thought about. uggggggg

I did know ahead of time that I'd be on a vent. I had pulmonary function tests and they were a bit low. I made everyone promise that I'd be drugged enough that I wouldn't remember a thing, and they kept the promise. I don't remember a thing. Hubby said the worst thing I did was throw used Kleenex on the floor and giggle. Apparently I thought the current president was Reagan and the name of the month was Blue.
