update from VA
Hello Everyone! and congratulations to those of you who have dates set. I envy you!! Well, since my last post, I've met the surgeon for the first time, had my psych eval done, and worst news yet--the doctor is having real problems with the insurance company--and it's not about me, personally. It all started over something else, so it'll be at least 2 weeks before I know anything. Next, I still have to have a colonoscopy and a procedure called EGD done with a scope. I hate to show my ignorance, but does anyone here know this acronym? It's not in Stedman's 25th edition (the one I have) I did go to a support group meeting of my doctor's patients. It was great to be around others who have been through it and see them face to face. I appreciate all the replies you gals have sent to me, and i'll try harder to be on here more. Love, Sharon
EGD stands for esophagealgastroduodenoscopy. Now you see why it's abbreviated. Basically, a gastroenterologist (GI doc) looks at the esophagus, the stomach, and the first part of the small intestine through an endoscope. This is generally done at the same time as your colonoscopy if you are having both done. Both procedures are done under sedation.

Hi Sharon,
It is good to hear that you are moving along in the process. Know that sometimes you have to call the insurance to keep things moving along. You are your best advocate. Support groups are a nice place to find friendly faces. Don't ever hesitate to ask questions even if you think they are silly. I couldn't remember the long name for EDG either. I was thinking upper GI, close I guess.
Take care of yourself,
Robin
